2022 World Cup: Iran vs. United States Preview, Odds, Pick

November 26, 2022 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The United States play with Iran in the last game of the group stage at the World Cup in Qatar. These two teams wil decide which one goes to the next round in a direct encounter. The Iranians have a win over Wales, and three points, while the American team needs a victory to jump over the rivals and be safe in the race for the top two spots. We don’t need to remind how big of a deal this game is for both nations, for various reasons.

Preview

Iran (+320) recovered well following an opening loss to England, which saw the Iranians concede six goals and score only two. Though the circumstances were against this team against Albion, because they lost the starting goalkeeper who suffered a nasty injury, the center back was also a bit dazzled following a collision with the goalie, etc.

They were better than Wales in the matchup a few days ago, and we have to add that it would be a big injustice if the Dragons snapped one point. Iran dictated the tempo, and as a reward, goals in the final moments came.

A 2-0 win was the eighth game in the past ten Iran played, with two or fewer goals, which suggests that Taremi, Azmoun, and the boys prefer to protect their goals first and attack later.

USA (-110) played without goals against England, which was probably the most boring game in the World Cup. The “Don’t touch me, won’t touch” philosophy prevailed here, and it was completely suitable to see the fans booing at certain phases of the game.

Yanks opened the championship superbly, outlying Wales in the first half of their matchup, but later on, they froze and allowed a weaker team to dominate and, eventually, level the score.

We have to notice one negative trend in England’s game – five games without a win, with them losing one event, to Japan and four draws. On three occasions, the US unit didn’t score.

Latest News

To be honest, we don’t have the situation with the goalkeeper Beiranvand, but whatever happens, Hosseini is ready, and he was excellent against Wales.

Gregg Berhalter has to be more offensive-minded, and he might change something in the US tactics and lineup. Weah has to receive some help, and the only question is what will Berhalter change.

Head to Head

Back in 1998, Iran and USA played at the World Cup in France, and the Iranian team won, 2-1. It was the last round, and neither of the teams had a chance to advance to the knockout stage, with Germany and Yugoslavia occupying the top two spots.

Preview

This is going to be a very exciting game to watch, not only because of the situation in the standings but on multiple levels. First of all, we have to say that we expect to see at least five cards in this one because it carries a lot of significance. As for the other picks, our would be a moderate efficiency, 2 or 3 goals. The odds with the bookies are between -105 and +105, which is perfectly suitable for us and our plans.

Pick: Moderate efficiency, 2 or 3 goals +100
