NBA Finals: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns Series Preview, Odds and Prediction

July 4, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The NBA finals are here, with the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks clashing the ultimate series of the season. The Suns won the Western Conference, we might say comfortably, while on the other side, the Bucks had some troubles along the way. The biggest one of all is Giannis’ injury, but the fans and the team expect to have the two-time NBA MVP available, if not for the first game of the series, for those matches in Milwaukee for sure.

Preview

Milwaukee Bucks (+150) are flying to Phoenix following two excellent matches against the Atlanta Hawks, and two wins fought without Giannis. Many believed that the Bucks’ chances to win the East without the Greek Freak aren’t good, but the way they played amazed us.

Mike Budenholzer is Gregg Popovich’s authentic successor, and he proved that in the recent matches. Versatile attack, with lots of easy baskets, quick ball movement, and lucid solutions in the offense. That is how Milwaukee appeared in Games 5 and 6.

Middleton and Holiday are the leaders in the current circumstances, Lopez is a threat that might be an X-factor, while Bobby Portis and Jeff Teague pretend to be surprised on the offensive side of the ball. Don’t forget that Teague ran Bucks’ offense while playing under Budenholzer midway through the 2010s.

Phoenix Suns (-170) are one fantastically balanced team. Head coach Monty Williams is full of ideas, and he is getting them into action through Chris Paul, who perfectly understands his, well, let’s say, friend, as they know one another for a long time.

Just remember how Nick Nurse won the title with Toronto in his first year as the head coach; Williams is in the same position here – fresh, new, not scouted that much, and has unbelievable individuals on the court. One of them being Paul, arguably the best point guard since John Stockton.

Devin Booker is a relentless shooter, a scorer with the Hall of Fame potential, and his level of play and constant delivery are amazing. Deandre Ayton is the among most valuable big man in the league, in terms of his contribution to the team, not the stats, while role players such as Bridges, Crowder, Saric, Payne are excellent.

Head to Head Matches

Both matches these two sides played in the regular part of the season were fantastic, and Phoenix managed to win on each occasion. The first game in Arizona ended 128-127 for the Suns, and the second in Milwaukee 125-124.

As said, both games were unbelievably fun.

Prediction

Many things depend on Giannis’ health, but overall, even with him onboard, our pick here would be the Suns to take the title. They are more very, very constant and have the difference-maker, Chris Paul. That is something the Bucks can’t cover up, because Paul’s touch for controlling the game has been incredible. He knows when to slow down or increase the tempo, how, and who to attack, which is rare these days in the NBA. So solely because of him, our pick are the Suns.
