Buffalo Bills Teach Kansas City Chiefs a Painful Lesson at Arrowhead, 38-24

October 11, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills trounced their big rival, Kansas City Chiefs, at the Arrowhead Stadium tonight, 38-24. After a long time, the back-to-back AFC champions experienced a severe beating at home, and to make things even worse, they would lose to a rival from the last year’s AFC Championship game.

Buffalo was dominant in every aspect of the play, outplaying the hosts throughout all 60 minutes. Even in the moments when the Chiefs looked as if they might pull out some magic and create a push, the response coming from the other side was swift and cruel.

Whether it came in the form of an interception or a touchdown, the Bills were always there to stop the momentum. When mentioning the momentum, many were expecting to see the guests from Buffalo slowing down following a game delay during halftime. Heavy rain and lightning forced the officials and the organizers to keep both teams in the locker rooms for one hour before continuing the event.

The Bills were on fire in those moments, closing the second period convincingly, flipping the result in their favor.

In some six and a half minutes, Buffalo scored two touchdowns and one field goal, shifting into a higher gear and pulling away.

The second half started with subsequent punts, and when everyone believed that it was time for Mahomes to send a response and lead his team to the end zone, the former MVP threw an interception. Micah Hyde had a 26-yard pick-six to further extend the agony of the home side.

But that wasn’t the end of trouble for the Chiefs because Mahones threw another interception on the very next drive. He ended the night with 272 yards, 33-for-54, with two touchdowns and two picks. Mahomes also ran for 61 yards on 8 carries.

“We know we have what it takes. It’s a matter of coming together now and finding a way to do that,” he said after the match.

On the other side, Josh Allen was in the zone. The Bills’ leader and one of the biggest candidates for the MVP award had 315 yards, 15-for-26, for three touchdowns, and also ran 59 yards in 11 carries for a score.

His favorite target this year, Dawson Knox, had 117 yards on three catches. Stefon Diggs added 69, with one fantastic 61-yard catch, while Emmanuel Sanders recorded 54 yards but for two touchdowns.

Allen isn’t impressed that much with his first win over the Chiefs and Mahomes. He doesn’t want any euphoria and calls his teammates to calm down.

“I think this is going to be made a bigger deal than it is. We’re in Week 5,” Allen said. “Four wins doesn’t get you to the playoffs. We ended up with a win. That’s our goal each and every week.”

The Bills are 4-1 now, topping the AFC East and making a strong push for the top of the conference. Up next, they are visiting the Tennessee Titans on next Monday Night Football, and after that host the division rivals, the Miami Dolphins.

As for the Chiefs, they are 2-3, which is something we haven’t seen in a while. Mahomes and the boys will have two challenging road trips in the next couple of weeks. The first one is in DC against the Washington Football Team, and after that in Nashville vs. Tennessee.
