UEFA Champions League: Barcelona vs. Dynamo Kyiv Preview, Odds, Prediction

October 17, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Blaugrana will have a nice chance to stabilize itself with a win over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday night. But that won’t be easy because the Ukrainians believe they can create a sensation and take at least one point at Camp Nou. Barcelona’s struggles have boosted the morale of all its rivals, and everyone wants to inflict some hit on the falling giant now. After two rounds, the Spaniards are sitting at the bottom with Dynamo, without any points. This game is the last chance for either side to start rising towards the second spot and the knockout stage.

Preview

Barcelona (-400) is a huge favorite after a long time. Sad for many of their fans, but true. The positive thing is that Ronald Koeman doesn’t have any pressure about losing his job, as management showed support for the Dutch manager, accepting the fact that he couldn’t do much better in the current circumstanes. That will give him enough space to work and improve the current situation.

Blaugrana caught a breath of fresh air against Valencia in its last La Liga game on Sunday night. Barca won 3-1, even though the guests took the lead early on, shocking the home side. This victory and the overall performance of Koeman’s crew is a big boost of morale, and a swing on which Barca might build some momentum.

Moderate efficiency is the most frequent outcome of Barcelona’s games in terms of goals. Two or three scores were seen in seven of their past nine matches.

Dynamo Kyiv (+800) was victorious in Lviv on Saturday. The hosts took the lead in the late part of the first half, but the team from Kyiv immediately responded, netting two until the break. In the end, it was 1-4 for the champions.

They had a bad period recently. After losing to Shakhtar in the Super Cup, 3-0, they suffered a knockdown in Munich against Bayern, 5-0 and then played 0-0 at home vs. Shakhtar.

The fascinating thing is that the game against Lviv was the first one after nine consecutive in which we saw only one side scoring.

Latest News

Pedri will probably be out in this match because of his meniscus injury. There is no point in rushing his recovery now. Martin Braithwaite is out, while Eric Garcia has to serve his suspension.

Dynamo’s three questionable players are Besedin, Kulach, and Popov.

Head to Head Games

A bit older fans remember the fantastic generation dynamo had in 1997, and the way they humiliated Barcelona at Camp Nou, 0-4. Andriy Shevchenko scored a hat-trick then. The result in the rematch was 3-0 for Dynamo.

But after that, Barcelona won in each of the four meetings, most recently last season, 2-1 at home and 0-4 in Ukraine. Time has changed, and Dynamo didn’t have anyone like Sheva in the recent 20 years.

Prediction

Barca needs to win here at any cost, otherwise, their UCL adventure is pretty much over. A win is a sure bet, but we will suggest going with Barca -1.5 because of the profits. The odds on that are -125, which is superb, at least in our opinion.

Pick: Barcelona -1.5 -120

Here are the preview for more UEFA Champions League games:

  • Ajax vs. Borussia Dortmund
  • PSG vs. RB Leipzig
  • Porto vs. AC Milan
  • Besiktas vs. Sporting Lisbon
