Manchester City Easily Routs Manchester United, 2-0

November 6, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Manchester City was confident against their biggest rivals, Manchester United, defeating them at Old Trafford with 0-2. It was one-sided domination of the reigning champions, who were far better than the pale opponents.

The Red Devils had only one notable scoring opportunity today, while on the other side, we saw at least five dead chances of the visitors. United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea, needs to be credited the most for saving his team from a more painful experience.

Both goals were scored in the first half, with the first one coming from United’s center-back, Eric Bailly, and the second from Bernardo Silva.

Bailly hit his own net after seven minutes of play when he wanted to stop a cross, but unfortunately, the ball deflected off of him straight into United’s goal. The second goal came in the final minute of the opening half, and again, the cross from the left side was fatal for the hots, as none of their players reacted well, allowing Bernardo Silva to score on the far post.

In between, City had at least two or three more chances to score, but David De Gea stopped all the attempts. If it weren’t for the Spaniard, the Red Devils could have suffered a humiliation equal to the one against Liverpool.

The second half was dull because City kept its lead, holding the ball in its feet, while United unsuccessfully tried to reach the opponent’s box. Cristiano Ronaldo put in a lot of effort, and the only support for the fantastic striker came from Bruno Fernandes, while all the other United’s players were far below the expected level.

With these three points, City keeps pace with Chelsea and Liverpool. But what is also important is the fact that Guardiola’s machinery plays well.

“It was a solid performance and a good game. A deserved victory. Three more points,” said the Spanish manager, who also explained how his team restrained United.

“If you attack quickly against United, and you don’t finish this action, you will be attacked quicker…That’s why we shoot a game with lots of control and maintain possession because then they cannot run.”

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskajer was unhappy and didn’t speak too much. The pressure on the Norwegian is way too high, and he might lose his job following another hard blow at home. After 0-5 against Liverpool, he was on the verge of getting fired but somehow survived. Following today’s terrible performance, the fans are again frustrated, and we now await to see the reaction of the United’s board.

“We still don’t trust ourselves with the ball; pass it as well as I know they can. We sometimes made the wrong solutions, sometimes the right solution but not the right execution,” Solskjaer stated.

We can expect to see the final verdict on his status in the next 24 hours. The sources from England aren’t reporting anything right now, but we await the morning to hear more.

Next, the clubs will have a two-week break due to international duties, and some players can rest. Others won’t have that luxury because their national teams have lots of obligations. World Cup qualifiers are reaching their finish, and many players from top teams have to participate in those events.
