Dallas Cowboys Pick Taysom Hill Four Times, Win vs. Saints, 27-17

December 3, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys have stiffed Taysom Hill to defeat the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football, 27-17.

It seems that the Cowboys like having the defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, in charge, as their head coach, Mike McCarthy, missed the game because of COVID-19 protocols.

Quinn, the former Atlanta Falcons head coach, who led the franchise from Georgia to the Super Bowl, has put on a nightmare for the Saints QB. Hill ended the game with four interceptions thrown, one of them pick-six.

“I love doing hard things with a group of people, and this was one of those moments,” Quinn said. “We wanted to make sure Mike and all the guys that we missed, that we got their back.”

The Cowboys lost three of the past four events, and this one was extremely important for them. They are atop the NFC East, but the franchise from Texas is still hoping to reach the first seed in the NFC conference.

Dak Prescott had a solid game with 238 passing yards, one pick, and one toss for TD. Tony Pollard was solid as well, with 71 rushing yards on seven carries for one TD, while Ezekiel Elliott had a lot of dirty work, managing to generate 45 yards on 13 rushes.

CeeDee Lamb caught seven passes for 89 yards, while Michael Gallup had a receiving TD and 36 yards in five receptions. Carlos Watkins was the guy who picked Hill and returned the football all the way home, and that was the game-decider with 2:52 to go.

Even though the Saints responded less than 20 seconds later, with Hill’s 70-yard pass Deonte Harris, there was no way back for the hosts, who are in a pretty tough position now.

Tonight’s loss was the fifth straight for New Orleans, who didn’t win since Jameis Winston’s injury. Hill, who recently signed a unique deal with the Saints, had an awful game, with 264 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. He did rush for 101 yards on 11 carries but without any significant impact on the scoreboard.

Harris had four receptions for 96 yards and a TD, while Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught two passes, one of them for a TD and 49 yards.

The Saints had more yards from the scrimmage, better third-down conversion, and held the ball more in their possession, but the turnovers were the difference-maker tonight.

“It’s very frustrating. It’s unfamiliar territory for us,” Hill said. “This is my fifth year, and I haven’t experienced anything like this since I’ve been a Saint.”

The Saints (5-7) have no more time for waiting and have to respond immediately. Luckily, they have a perfect opponent in the next matchup, the New York Jets on the road. After that, New Orleans travels to Tampa Bay before coming back home to meet the Dolphins and the Panthers. The regular part of the season closes for them in Atlanta.

Overall, all but one team here is beatable, which gives head coach Sean Payton hope that his team might reach the postseason after all.

On the other side, the Cowboys (8-4) have slowed down recently but still, have the top of the NFC East in their hands. Dallas is up against the division rivals in the upcoming three matches, the first in DC against the football team, then in New York vs. Giants, and after that back at home where they face WFT again.
