UEFA Champions League: AC Milan vs. Liverpool Preview, Odds, Prediction

December 5, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

AC Milan and Liverpool meet at San Siro in a critical match for the hosts. With a win here, Rosonerri will have a chance to reach the knockout stage, which would be a magnificent success for Stefano Pioli’s unit. After a slow start, nobody expected to see them in the current position, but the victory in Madrid over Atletico suddenly brought back Milan in the race for the round of 16. Meanwhile, Liverpool is atop the standings having five wins in five events. Jurgen Klopp will probably mix the lineup a little bit and rest some players before a very exhausting December.

Preview

AC Milan (+110) has made a very good intro for this match posting two wins in a row in three days, thus boosting morale before the big game against Liverpool. Rossoneri could end up second in group B, but only if they win here and the result in Porto goes in their favor.

Lately, the seven-time European champions haven’t been that confident at home, as they won only twice in the past five meetings, posting two more draws and a loss to Sassuolo. We’ve noticed an obvious slowdown in their game since the start of the campaign.

Also, only one match in these five at San Siro ended with over 2.5 scores, and in both in which Milan won, we’ve seen them keeping clean sheets.

Liverpool (+210) is ruthless at the moment, winning the past five games and allowing only one goal, while on the other side scoring 15. The Reds defeated Arsenal, Porto, Southampton, Everton, and at last the Wolves.

In all but the contest against Wolverhampton, Klopp’s guys have been scoring at least twice, but to be honest, even at Molineux, they were in a position to do that.

Keeping in mind that there is a very tough stretch ahead of them in the Premiership, we expect to see the German coach mixing up the starting lineup a little bit.

Latest News

Milan is in enormous trouble. Calabria, Castillejo, Kjaer, Pellegri, Plizzari, and Ante Rebic are all injured, while Olivier Giroud stands as questionable in this one.

On the other side, Elliot, Jones, and Firmino are definitely unavailable for this game, while Gomez and Keita probably won’t play as well.

Head to Head

The first game in Liverpool saw lots of goals and L’Pool’s comeback. The Reds took the lead early on, but AC Milan flipped the result in the closing moments of the first half. However, the English powerhouse came back to post a 3-2 win in the second 45 minutes.

Also, it is needless to say that these two teams have met twice in the UCL finals since 2000. The first time in Istanbul back in 2005 when Liverpool won, and two years after when Milan got even.

Prediction

We won’t go with the full-time result and pick the winner here, because Klopp might send the second unit on the field. Therefore, betting on goals will be our decision, and we are suggesting to go with a moderate efficiency, meaning 2 or 3 goals. The odds on that are -105.

Pick: Moderate efficiency 2 or 3 goals -105
