MotoGP: German Grand Prix Preview and Predictions

June 18, 2022 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The tenth round of the MotoGP season is set to take place in Germany at the Motorrad Grand Prix. The fans know this track as Sachsenring, as it has featured races in this competition since 1998. Located in Chemnitz, Saxony, it is one of the most exciting tracks in the entire calendar.

Coming up to this race, Francesco Bagnaia won the pole position, proving that he and his Ducat have been in solid shape since landing on European soil. But whether would that be enough to win the race, his third in the past five events, we will see. Ducati is inconsistent, and the competition is fierce. His biggest rival will be the reigning champion, Fabio Quartararo, who seeks his second win of the year following last week’s triumph in Catalunya.

Preview

Pecco Bagnaia was ahead of Quartararo during the qualifiers, and this was his third pole in the past five races. Ducati is looking superb in Europe, and for the moment, the Italian manufacturer is rising its form as all the riders on this machine.

Though, the difference wasn’t that high, only 0.076, and Quartararo has enough reasons for optimism as well.

Aleix Espargaro (2nd in the standings) and Johann Zarco (4th in the standings) are right behind, with the latter starting third and Espargaro fourth. Both of them haven’t won a single race this season, but the consistency of both the riders and the machines have been at a very high level, which put them near the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini had a slump during the qualifiers finishing 17th, which is a huge blow for this guy who was solid recently. Bastianini has had three wins since the season started, in the opening event in Qatar, in America and France, but in the past two occasions, he failed to reach the finish line, which severely deteriorated his position in the standings.

To make it even worse, today’s result in the qualifiers added more frustration to the Gresini Racing MotoGP rider who uses Ducati.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, Bastianini’s teammate, is fifth in the starting line. He showed superb speed in Italy, winning the pole position, but he couldn’t take that domination to the race and develop consistency.

Previous Races

This was Marc Marquez’s backyard. The fantastic Spaniard won 11 times here and all 11 times in a row. Since 2010, no other rider managed to finish ahead of one of the best ever in MotoGP.

His domination in Germany is widely considered one of the biggest in all moto sports and not just that, but in all the sports overall. We could compare it with Rafael Nadal’s reign at the French Open.

Unfortunately, we won’t see Marquez this year.

Prediction

We believe that the Quartararo’s consistency and rise of the form are going to be decisive here. Unlike Bagnaia, whose Ducati often fails to finish the race, the champion didn’t have a single dropout since the start of the year, while Bagnaia didn’t finish the two of the past three events. He was either first or out in the most recent four.

That is why betting on Quartararo is our choice here.

Pick: Fabio Quartararo wins
