UCL: Inter Survives Barcelona, Liverpool Routine Against Rangers, Ajax’s Historic Loss

Inter defeated Barcelona in the central game of the day in the UEFA Champions League. Nerazzurri bested the guests from Catalonia, 1-0, following a tight battle and a very controversial decision in the closing moments of the contest.

Denzel Dumfries apparently handballed in the box in the stoppage time, and many believed that the officials would award a penalty for Barcelona. Previously, Barca was denied a goal due to a similar violation, but shockingly, the call stood this time.

The only goal was delivered by Hakan Calhanoglu in the 45+2 minutes of the first half.

In the other game of Group C, Bayern Munich didn’t have any problems dismantling Plzen, beating the Czech unit at Allianz Arena, 5-0. Sane had a brace, Choupo-Moting, Mane and Gnabry added one hit each.

Liverpool was better than the Glasgow Rangers, routinely defeating the team from Scotland, 2-0. Trent-Arnold and Salah netted, the first form free kick and the second from the penalty.

Meanwhile, Ajax suffered the worst defeat at home in the history of the club. Napoli humiliated the four-time European champions, beating them 1-6 at Amsterdam Arena, something that we’ve never seen before.

Ajax took the lead after only nine minutes, through Kudus, but after that came the tsunami from the other side, with the guests netting three goals until halftime. Gil Azzuri added three more in the second 45 minutes, with Raspadori posting a brace, while Di Lorenzo, Zielinski, Simeone, and Kvaratskhelia added one each.

Club Brugge isn’t kidding, and the Belgian champions posted their third straight win in the UCL, this time beating Atletico Madrid, 2-0. Sowah in the 36th and Jutgla in the 62nd minute were lethal for the Madridians, who had a chance to score from a penalty in the 76th minute, yet Griezmann missed it.

In the same Group, B, Porto was better than Bayer Leverkusen in a highly odd game, which saw a couple of VAR reactions, one in which Porto’s goal got canceled, while Bayer received a penalty on the other end. The Germans missed the same, which later turned out to be very expensive.

Zaidu and Galeno were the scorers for the Dragons who are back in the battle for the knockout stage.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham played the dullest game of the day, without any gals at the Deutsche Bank Park. Many expected to see a thrilling and interesting battle, but these two units failed to show up.

Meanwhile, the second matchup of Group D, the one in Marseille, saw the hosts beating Sporting, 4-1. Though, the game started with the hosts conceding after one minute of play, and things weren’t looking good for the French powerhouse. However, they would blitz the rivals with three goals in 15 minutes to turn the result upside down in the opening half, and confirmed the victory through Mbemba in the late phase of the game.

The scorers for the hosts besides him were Sanchez, Harit and Balerdi, while Trincao netted for the guests.
