Champions League: Chelsea vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview, Odds, Prediction (March 7)

March 5, 2023 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Chelsea hosts Borussia Dortmund in the rematch of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. the Germans have a 1-0 lead against the English unit, who struggles to gain consistency lately. However, that doesn’t have to mean anything in this event because Chelsea is a team with a long and rich tradition, and they know to play these types of games. Meanwhile, Dortmund is in the best form in the past several years, and comes into Tuesday’s battle following a big win in the domestic championship against RB Leipzig.

Chelsea vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview

Chelsea (-105) finally won. They were better than Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, 1-0, snapping a six-game winless streak, which hurt the team’s morale and caused enormous frustration among the fans.

The Blues have been terrible lately. After three ties in a row, Graham Potter’s crew lost three consecutive contests and scored just once during these six meetings.

Their events are inefficient, with the latest seven ending with under 2.5 scores, and six saw goals on just one side. However, Chelsea really didn’t have any luck during this stretch, experiencing some rather unbelievable situations and misses upfront.

Borussia Dortmund (+333) was better than RB Leipzig this Friday night. The final result was 2-1, with Marco Reus and Emre Can scoring twice inside the opening half. In the second 45 minutes, the guests took the initiative, cutting down the lead and managing to impose their own tempo.

The Millionaires defended in the last few minutes, but they did have a chance to solve the game much earlier. This was the tenth game in a row in which Edin Terzic’s crew recorded a triumph, and Borussia looks pretty well. They did have luck in a couple of events, but still, it is like that when you have courage and give 100%.

Dortmund played six events away from Signal-Iduna since the New Year started and won each one, netting at least twice in all but one event, which was in Hoffenheim, 0-1. But even in that clash, they could have scored three or four times.

Chelsea vs. Borussia Dortmund Latest News

Reece James and Mateo Kovacic might be in the protocol, while Thiago Silva, Azpilicueta, Pulisic, Mendy, Madueke, Aubameyang, Broja Kante and Mount are all not available for Graham Potter.

Adeyemi is out for the guests. It is a big hit for Terzic, but he has Sebastian Haller in solid form and even though the big striker didn’t score too many goals, he has a positive impact on the game. Moukoko, Kamara and Morey are out too.

Chelsea vs. Borussia Dortmund Head to Head

The first meeting was decided with Adeyemi’s goal shortly into the second half. But Chelsea showed more than Dortmund, and to be straight, it was surprising not to see them winning. Borussia’s goalkeeper, Kobel, stopped the Blues on a few occasions, and in other situations, a post or a bar denied the guests from scoring.

Chelsea vs. Borussia Dortmund Prediction

This should be an open and very interesting matchup. Chelsea’s games are inefficient, but they aren’t playing with high motive anymore, but in this case, we might see them playing differently. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge is fantastic, and the Champions League is completely different, which is why we expect a fired-up Chelsea. Both teams scoring is our pick for this event, with the current odds on that -125.

Pick: Both teams to score -125
