Bayern Defeats and Eliminates PSG, Benfica Impressive Against Brugge

March 8, 2023 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Bayern Munich eliminated PSG in the derby of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The Saints, led by Messi and Mbappe, were helpless and inferior against the German champs, who won the second game 2-0. In the other event of the night, AC Milan kept its lead at the Tottenham Stadium against the Spurs, playing without goals.

Despite all the players and invested money, PSG can’t win the Champions League. The French powerhouse fell in Munich, with the home unit winning this event as well. After 0-1 in Paris, the Bavarians were again better than PSG, and the result was even higher.

Choupo-Moting and Gnabry scored twice in the second half, Moting in the 61st minute and Gnabry 60 seconds before the end of the regulations. The difference between these units was obvious, as Bayern controlled the situation on the field without any problem.

“There’s a lot of disappointment in the dressing room. In the Champions League, the small details make the difference. We could have done better in the first half, we didn’t. We’re all annoyed and disappointed,” sad Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The big problem for the Saints coming into this event was Neymar’s injury, with the Brazilian being out for the season per the latest sources. Messi was marked well, while Bayern’s players cut off Mbappe.

On the other side, we saw true teamwork among Bayern’s players, who were strict and compact at any given moment of the event. Julian Nagelsmann read his rivals pretty well, creating perfect tactics for tonight’s contest. As stated before, the guests were helpless throughout the majority of the night.

This is yet another massive failure for the French powerhouse, whose fans are already stating that the team should be dissolved, with only Mbappe left in Paris. According to the supporters, Mess and Neymar should be at the exit doors. They simply didn’t justify the money spent, and it’s time for the board to make radical changes.

Bayern is again one of the top favorites for the UCL title, and besides this crew, we have Manchester City and Real Madrid. Since winning the last Champions League title, and beating PSG in the finals, this team didn’t have too much luck on the international stage.

In the other clash this Wednesday, AC Milan stayed unbeaten at the Tottenham Stadium, 0-0, thus reaching its first quarterfinals following 11 years. Rossoneri won the UEFA Champions League seven times but weren’t among the elite of European football for quite a while.

Stefano Pioli’s boys outplayed the rivals in every aspect of the game, and Tottenham had luck not to concede at least twice in front of its own fans. In 180 minutes of play, the Spurs didn’t create a decent chance in front of Milan’s goal. May we remind that the English unit came into the matchup as a massive favorite.

Spurs’ frustration reached its peak in the 77th minute once Romero received a second yellow card, which left the hosts with only 10 players. That was also the moment when the game pretty much ended.

Besides tonight’s two teams, the quarterfinals already have Chelsea, who defeated Borussia Dortmund at Stamford Bridge, 2-0, erasing a minimal loss in the opening leg. Meanwhile, Club Brugge was smashed in its matchup against Benfica, 0-2 at home and 5-1 at La Luz. The battles for the top eight of the UEFA Champions League continue next week.
