Champions League: Manchester City vs. Real Madrid Preview, Betting Tips, Prediction, Picks (May 17)

May 15, 2023 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The spectacle in Madrid between Real and Manchester City ended without winners, meaning that the second 90 minutes (maybe 120) will decide who goes to the finals. City is happier with 1-1, as they come back to England without a deficit, but Guardiola knows that Real Madrid can still be lethal, and he learned that lesson last season. Real didn’t have to push hard in the domestic championship this weekend, and Los Blancos had a routine contest from which they came out as winners. The same goes for Haaland and the boys.

Here more Europa and Champions League previews

  • Sevilla vs. Juventus
  • Bayer Leverkusen vs. AS Roma
  • Inter Milan vs. AC Milan

Preview

Manchester City (-160) was better than Everton at Goodison Park, where they defeated the relegation strugglers 0-3, displaying a confident and pretty routine performance. Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace with Kevin De Bruyne on the bench. Haaland added one more goal to his account, improving his historic EPL campaign.

This was the 22nd game in a row in which the Citizens haven’t lost, with them posting 18 victories and only four losses. The game against Everton was the sixth in the previous seven in which Man City netted at least twice.

When looking at only the home events, we’ve seen City play fiercely, with them currently riding a streak of 15 consecutive victories at their Etihad Stadium. Only one game during that span saw Guardiola’s boys score one goal, and all the others ended with them delivering multiple hits.

Real Madrid (+425) beat Getafe in the domestic championship this Saturday, 1-0. It was a dull game in which the hosts controlled almost everything, but without really over-excelling. There was simply no need for Ancelotti’s boys to do that.

There was one negative news that hit Real’s staff after the game – Camavinga’s injury, with the French midfielder receiving a hit in the knee that forced the youngster to go out. Camavinga was excellent in the first meeting and one of the best players on the pitch, and for the moment, his appearance on Wednesday night stands as questionable.

The problem for Real are the last two losses on the road, in which they allowed four goals, in Girona, 4-2, and two in San Sebastian, 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.

Latest News

City is locked and loaded, ready to go, with all the players healthy and ready for the rematch.

The situation with Camavinga is monitored carefully, and his condition is still unclear.

Head-to-Head Games

The last event ended 1-1. Real got the lead through Vinicius with a vicious strike outside the box. That was Real’s first shot on goal of the game, while on the other side, Man City leveled the score through Kevin De Bruyne.

Prediction

The Citizens are the absolute favorites here, and to be perfectly honest, they were a better team in the opening clash in Madrid. Guardiola’s unit is in the best possible shape right now, and the way they play is very convincing, which is why we pick their victory here. The odds are great, and with all due respect to Real, the current UCL champion, we have no doubt that the hosts are reaching the finals after the regular 90 minutes.

Pick: Man City -160
