Denver Nuggets Sweep the LA Lakers, Reach the NBA Finals

May 23, 2023 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Denver Nuggets are in the NBA Finals after sweeping the LA Lakers in the West Finals. Nikola Jokic and the boys beat the Lakers in Game 4 in Los Angeles, 113-111, showing that they truly are the best team in the Western Conference.

Despite the fact that the Lakers had a 73-58 lead at halftime, the Nuggets came back and fought their way toward victory. This is the first time in history for the Nuggets to reach the NBA finals. After 47 years, Denver has a chance to win the NBA title.

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s surreal. We’re going to keep making history; that’s the thing. We’re going to keep that mindset,” Jamal Murray stated.

Nikola Jokic was leading the way for the guest, with the best player in the league delivering another triple-double, 30 points, 14 boards, and 13 assists with three blocks. Jokic received the MVP award for the best player in the West Finals series.

The Joker was fantastic, beating the Lakers under the rim and eventually solving the game with a basket that broke the tie some 50 seconds before the end. In all the crucial moments, the Joker was better than his rivals, so he got the MVP award.

Jamal Murray didn’t hit a single three in four attempts but was 10-for-14 for two and had 25 points with five assists. As time goes by, Murray is getting better and better, and after some shady performances in which he underperformed, leading the Nuggets in defeats, we can say that the Canadian guard reached a very high level of play, almost the same as in the bubble three years ago.

Aaron Gordon had the best game of the entire series with 22 points and was involved in a small incident with LeBron early on. Though, nothing serious happened, and both players continued to play. Michael Porter Jr. again did the dirty work with 15 points and 10 boards. MPJ’s contribution isn’t recognized because all eyes are on the Joker. Kenatvious Caldwell-Pope had 13 buckets.

On the other side, LeBron scored 40 buckets and grabbed 10 boards and nine assists. He gave everything he had to keep his team in the game but without success. James kinda lost the pace in the second half after pouring 31 in the opening two periods.

“Me and AD were just talking in the locker room (and) we came to the consensus this is one of the best teams, if not the best team, we’ve played together for all four years,” King James said about the Denver Nuggets.

Davis had a rough time trying to stop Jokic. Eventually, he scored 21 points and grabbed 14 boards, but that wasn’t enough to slow down the Nuggets’ superstar.

Other Lakers’ players gave their effort, Austin Reaves with 17 points, Dennis Schroder had 13, and Rui Hachimura 10 with seven boards. The purple and gold scored only eight threes in 20 shots, which is not enough to beat a team like the Nuggets.

The team from the City of Angles is at a crossroad, and they have to make big decisions before the upcoming free agency.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets are awaiting the rival in the finals. The Miami Heat lead 3-0 against the Boston Celtics and have a matchpoint tonight at the Miami-Dade Arena in Florida. If the Heat win, the Nuggets will have a home-court edge in the finals, which will be a big edge and a mental boost for Mike Malone’s guys who are performing superbly at the Mile High since the start of the campaign.
