French Open Odds: Iga Swiatek Favorite Among the Ladies, Men’s Draw Much Interesting

May 29, 2023 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The second Grand Slam of the year starts today in Paris, where the best tennis players in the world begin their adventure at the Roland Garros. Both the ladies and the gents’ competition begin.

Igia Swiatek is a major favorite among the ladies, and it appears that this might be a one-horse race here, with the Polish player being way ahead of the entire competition. Conversely, the men’s part of the tournament promises a lot of excitement, with several players bidding to win the trophy.

Novak Djokovic is after his 23rd Grand Slam title, the most ever, and comes to Paris to win it. He will have young Carlos Alkaraz opposite, as well as Daniil Medvedev and a few other rivals.

Roland Garros Women’s Draw

As stated, Swiatek (+105) is the top favorite. She aims for her third title here in four years and wants to extend a dominant streak that started last season. Back then, we haven’t seen a decent rival standing up to the Pole throughout the entire tournament. Right now, Swiatek has a 91% win rate at Garros.

Aryna Sabalenka (+700), the winner of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, and the finalist of the same, Elena Rybakina (+800) are after Swiatek, yet with far more modest prospects than the champion. Sabalenka was better than Swiatek in Madrid Masters, while Rybakina won the Masters in Rome.

These two are the middle echelon of the favorites, while all the other players come with their odds set at +2000 or more.

Roland Garros Men’s Draw

The men’s part of the draw is super-exciting. Novak Djokovic is here to become the record-holder in Grand Slam title, Carlos Alcaraz wants to announce himself as the next No.1 and the future king of clay, while Daniil Medvedev wants to prove his worth by winning the first Grand Slam on clay.

We’ve seen the Russian winning the Masters in Rome, which was his first major breakthrough on this surface. One more Russian player won the clay Masters, only this one was in Monte Carlo, as Andrey Rublev lifted the trophy in southern France. So, he, too, needs to be counted into the equation.

"Honestly, I don't miss him… I've had not so much success against him." 😅

Alcaraz was the best in Madrid and Barcelona, indicating a good form and showing that all the injury issues are behind him. The young Spaniard is the top favorite to win Roland Garros (+165), ahead of the all-time great Novak Djokovic (+250).

The Joker won the Australian Open, and with Rafael Nadal out of the picture, the Serb needs only one Grand Slam more to become immortal. He is already the best of all time according to a vast majority of the fans and experts, but setting a record would officially crown Djokovic. He isn’t in some particularly good shape coming to Paris, but with Novak, that doesn’t have to mean anything.

Medvedev sits at +1100 to win the title, while Holger Rune, the young Danish player, is behind the Russian at +1200. Behind these two is the majority of the elite players today, like Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and Alexander Zverev, all with more or less similar odds of becoming the new ruler of the French Open.
