Jake Paul Defeats Nate Diaz, Possible MMA Rematch

Jake Paul defeated Nate Diaz in an exhibition boxing match this Saturday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The Youtuber was better following a unanimous decision.

The bout between Jake Paul and Nick Diaz has raised plenty of attention and has lived up to the hype. It started with Paul smashing Diaz, but ended with him fighting for life. Some would say that it had the same course as the one between Leoon Edwards and Diaz, and if it lasted for one more round, things would be extremely problematic for the 26-year-old.

We saw him rocking Diaz for the moment in the fifth round, hitting Diaz in his forehead with his left hand. From that moment on, it seemed as if Paul had slightly deflated, not repeating another round like that. On the other side, Diaz pulled himself together in the next one, and then started to rise back into the fight.

Paul’s cardio dropped in the final three rounds, while Diaz’s stayed the same, and we saw him attacking the rival pretty relentlessly in the ninth and tenth. Paul was tying up constantly with Nate, sometimes not allowing the fight to continue for ten seconds or more, obviously being in problems.

However, over the first five rounds, Paul dominated the ring, showcasing why many believe he could be a decent pro if he decides to go that way. He punished Diaz, creating problems for him all the time. This was his fifth victory over one UFC fighter, as he previously defeated Tyron Woodley twice, Anderson Silva and Ben Askren.

For Diaz, this was a debut inside the boxing ring, and may we add that he looked good. In the end, the stats didn’t show such a big difference between him and Paul, with Diaz landing 143 hits and Paul 174, but the Youtuber had only five more power punches landed, 140-135. It also needs to be said that the fight was at 185 pounds, which is significantly higher than Diaz’s usual weight during his UFC career. He fought in this class for the first time ever.

There were talks after the fight about the rematch, but this time, it wouldn’t be a boxing one but an MMA bout. According to Paul, he has PFL behind him and a $10 million offer on the table for a battle with Diaz. Nate responded positively, but under the condition that this fight needs to be co-promoted by Real Fight Inc.

According to the media around the globe, the PPV number of sales eclipsed 800 thousand, making it the second-highest this year, behind Davis vs. Garcia matchup. There isn’t any confirmation on how much would each of the fighters earn, but it is expected to see Paul taking at least $3 million while on the other, Diaz $1 million, which is far more than he took in the UFC for any of his fights.

We have another boxing spectacle coming our way, with Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou meeting on September 28th. That will be an even bigger event than Paul vs. Diaz, and many predict it might break the 2-million PPV limit.
