Wilder Retains His WBC Title After A Draw, Fury Makes A Huge Comeback

December 2, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

In the biggest boxing show of the year, Deontay Wilder (40-0-1) and Tyson Fury (29-0-1) both raised their hands in the air. After a long time, we have seen a draw in one such a big fight.

With this outcome, Wilder is still the undefeated heavyweight champion of the WBC version, while on the other hand, the Gipsy King made a huge comeback into the ring, after two and a half years and many problems with alcohol, drugs and weight.

“I hope I did you all proud after nearly three years out of the ring,” Fury said after the fight, sending the message to all his fans around the world.

The Irishman was better throughout the fight, having restrained Wilder’s atomic punches, with dodging and moving up and down the ring. It seemed that his comeback is going to be really big. Heavyweight title big.

Until the ninth round, when Wilder sent one of his rockets towards Fury who found himself on the floor just moments later. Gupsy King got up quickly and continued the match as if nothing happened, but this was not the last time he was in a knockdown.

With some two minutes to go in the final round, Wilder’s two-punch combination nearly left his opponent without conscious. Once again the boxer from Great Britain stood up, surprising all 18,000 fans in Staples Center, and finished the fight on his feet. What ignited the crowd was his response, when he stunned Wilder with the right hand and neutralize his momentum.

“I think with the two knockdowns, I definitely won the fight,” Wilder said.

The American chose only kind words when speaking about his rival, saying that he and Fury are two best heavyweight boxers in the world.

“He was just telling me great fight, he loves me, and thank you for the opportunity. We’re the best in the world. The respect was mutual.”

The same situation is with the challenger, who despite his two knockouts thinks that he won this spectacle.

“We’re on away soil. I got knocked down twice, but I still believe I won that fight,” Fury said.

The movement of the Irishman was something Wilder simply couldn’t figure out except in those two situations when his hits landed on the target. Despite being 44-pounds heavier, Fury was dancing around the ring. Also, his stamina was unbelievable, and Wilder’s look when he got up after being on the floor for the second time will become legendary.

Statistically, the challenger won the fight, as he landed 84 punches on 327 attempts. Wilder made 71 in 430. Still, the numbers aren’t always displaying the big picture.

The judges scored like this, Alejandro Rochin (USA) 115-111 for Wilder, Robert Trapper (CAN) for Fury 114-112, and Phil Edward (ENG) 113-113.

According to most experts, this match is the No.1 candidate for the fight of the year. We have seen everything, ferocious punches, counter attacks, both fighters giving their best.

It is why talks about the rematch appeared immediately. And it seems that both sides would like one to take place.

“The rematch, I guarantee I’m going to get him,” Wilder said, stating that he doesn’t have any problems with the venue. “Let’s give the fans what they want to see. It was a great fight, and let’s do it again. It doesn’t matter to me where we do it.”

Fury agreed on that, saying that he is 100% for the fight to happen.

“One hundred percent we’ll do the rematch,”

He also used this situation and the publicity to call out Anthony Joshua the current WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion.

“There is another certain heavyweight out there… chicken, chicken! Where are you AJ? Where are you?”

The Gipsy King is back, along with his trash-talk, and there is no doubt that boxing becomes more interesting from this moment on.
