Bears Coach Nagy: “Our Defense Is Wow!”

December 10, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Chicago Bears are still making a huge noise. They defeated the biggest Super Bowl contender, LA Rams on Sunday Night Football. The final result was 15-6, for the hosts.

Last night Jared Goff experienced something which was totally new to him. Beating. Lots of beating. The first overall pick from the 2016 NFL draft was sacked three times. But those sacks weren’t the only hits he took. There were a lot of others which forced him to throw four interceptions and prevent him from making at least one touchdown pass.

LA Rams QB finished the match with a season-low 180 yards. The whole Rams’ offense had one disastrous night.

“They did a good job getting some pressure and then they played tight coverage and there really just weren’t many plays to make tonight because of some of the selections that I had,” said Sean McVay after the game.

And when you look at it closer, the boys from Los Angeles were stopped in all the aspects of last night’s game.

Todd Gurley II also had a season-low, in rushing yards, 28, and carries, 11. For the biggest MVP contender who averages around 100 yards per contest, these numbers are pretty low.

When a reporter asked Gurley, what did the Bears do to stop them, the player’s answer was in one word.

Everything.

Meanwhile, Bears’ coach Matt Nagy was shining in front of the reporters at the post-game press conference. He couldn’t believe himself that his team completely crushed one of the best offenses in the league.

“Our play on defense — all I can say is wow,” coach Nagy said.

The 40-year old believes that his team is still growing, and that games like this one are vital during that process.

“For them to go out and do it (against) a team that had only one loss all year long … is so powerful for our guys now because it helps us grow,” Nagy said. “It helps us grow with confidence. It helps us grow togetherness,” he said.

Just to remind you, after losing to New Orleans, the Rams had three wins in a row with an average of 40 points scored in each one.

Though, there was one blank spot in Chicago’s game. And that was Mitch Trubisky. Once again he failed to deliver a good performance. Maybe he wasn’t fully recovered from his injury, but the second-year QB posted really bad numbers..

He had 110 yards throwing 16 of 30, with three interceptions and one touchdown. The Rams gathered 83 yards return after his bad passes. Young quarterback wasn’t disappointed after the match, but he wasn’t feeling happy either because of his performance. Still, he credited the rest of the team for saving him.

“You’ve just got to put your own selfish thoughts about how you played aside. … I’m just very proud of the way the team had my back.” Trubisky stated.

The Bears defense sacked Goff four times, yet that data isn’t expressing the full magnitude of their game last night. They were constantly around Goff, whose pocket fell apart many times. Khalil Mack had one sack, but the former Oakland Raider constantly pressured both Goff and his protection.

Eddie Goldman caught Rams’ QB in the end zone for the safety which gave an 8-6 lead to the hosts. Bears immediately made that 15-6, scoring a touchdown on the next drive.

Trubisky connected Bradley Sowell for the final result of this one. Also, Sowell was the first offensive lineman who scored a TD for Chicago after 11 years.

Bears now have 9-4 and are close to winning the NFC North after years of disappointing results. Not only that, but they still have some theoretical chances to reach one of the first two places in the NFC, but that is unlikely to happen because either Saints or the Rams have to lose two of their three last.

The next stop for the red-hot boys from Windy City are the Green Bay Packers, in the classic of American football, which will take place at the Soldier Field next week.

On the other side, Rams host the reigning champions Philadelphia Eagles.
