Rivers After TNF Win: ” Coach Lynn Said Let’s Go Win It Right Now”

December 14, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

With 0:04 until the end of the game in Kansas City, Chargers had a conversion play to execute. Philip Rivers was heading sidelines, to wait for the overtimes.

But something unusual happened. He heard his head coach yelling.

“Let’s go and win it right now”

Rivers, who threw two interceptions in the first 25 minutes of the contest, was a bit surprised.

“I was going sidelines, it’s going to overtime and coach Lynn said let’s go win it right now, let’s go for two, gonna win it right now.” Rivers explained to the journalists during the post-game press conference.

Even though they felt that they are closing on the Chiefs, nobody was thinking about delivering a final blow in those last four second, but instead waiting for the OT’s.

The veteran quarterback and the rest of his teammates were so fired up with Lynn’s confidence, that they went out there and did it.

“When he said that, there was so much conviction from him, it was like – yeah, let’s go win it right now.”

In less then a minute later, Rivers found Mike Williams alone in the end zone, and the celebration could begin. It was the fourth time last night for Williams to score. Even though the conversation doesn’t count as a touchdown, those two points need to be highlighted.

Before that, the sophomore wide receiver from Clemson made a 19-yard rushing TD, and two through the air. It was the game of his life no doubt about it,

That one final drive which allowed the Chargers to win was memorable. We saw everything, a fourth down conversion, penalties, controversial call, officials’ mistakes, everything which makes football the most exciting sport of them all.

After 9 straight losses and 5 years of waiting for the win over the Chiefs, the Chargers finally won one contest, which was in terms a huge relief for the whole franchise. Especially after last year’s loss in the same situation like this one.

“Here home, or wherever we needed to beat these guys, it’s been a long time.. since ’13.. I mean shoot, ’13.”

The Chargers are officially in the playoffs after this huge victory. But they are not settling only for that, as they want to clinch the AFC West division.

If they win both games until the end, and Kansas City blunders somewhere along the road, the LA-based franchise will get the top spot in their division and a home ground advantage in the divisional round as well as one week rest.

For Rivers winning the AFC West is not the priority as much as to have a spot in the playoffs. He spoke about getting a chance at the Super Bowl.

“You always talk about winning the division, but you just a spot, you just want to give yourself a chance… To know we’re gonna have a chance again is exciting, to be one of 12, and then have a chance”

Los Angeles Chargers are facing the Baltimore Ravens next week at home, and after that travel to meet the Denver Broncos at the new Mile High. Both meetings are going to be tough, as the Ravens need to win, to stay in the race for winning the AFC North. The Broncos are still in the hunt, but until then, they may be out of the playoff picture.

For the Chiefs, the road is much harder. Next week they head for Seattle, to clash with the in-form Seahawks and their growing defense. Pete Carroll and his boys are chasing the home ground advantage in the wild card round, and judging by the way they play lately, this is going to be a very, very hard task for Mahomes and his troops. After that KC host the Raiders in the final game of the regular part
