What Is Going To Be With Joe Flacco?

January 7, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

In the last game as Raven, Joe Flacco saw his Baltimore eliminated last night from the playoffs after suffering a loss at home to the Los Angeles Chargers who were dominating, surprisingly, in the defensive aspect of the game.

The guests from Los Angeles held the Ravens to zero points in the first half. Though the hosts did come back in the end, and even had a chance for a winning drive, for most of the fans, and the experts of this game, Baltimore’s main problem wasn’t Chargers good defense, but their own slow attack.

Of course, there isn’t much search for the guilty party; all eyes are on Lamar Jackson immediately.

The young quarterbacks didn’t have his night at all. He showed the flashes of his talent in the last part of the final quarter, but up until then, he was absolutely lost on the field.

The final numbers are not showing the full measure of the bad performance he posted last night. Jackson threw 29 times, completing 14 passes, for 194 yards, and one interception. He made three fumbles, one of them game-deciding in the last minute of the match. Suffered seven sacks and concluded the first half with only 17 passing yards and 2 of 18 with an interception.

Very bad you would say.

The same applied to the Ravens’ fans who were booing the youngster at the start of the fourth quarter, demanding from coach Harbaugh to put Joe Flacco in.

But he didn’t listen to them.

“Lamar’s our quarterback going forward. There is no question about that”, stated Harbaugh after the game ended at the press conference, and confirmed rumors that the Ravens are giving up on Flacco, who is going to be on the market when the free agency begins.

Flacco has 33 years and a Super Bowl ring behind him, but also a variety of injuries which could make it difficult for him to find a suitable place in this league.

After all, Jackson jumped in after his hip injury against the Steelers in Week 9.

The fans still love him, even though Jackson led this team to the playoffs for the first time since 2014. They knew, that Flacco’s performances during the playoffs and the regular part of the season are not the same, and that he might change some things on the field.

With 10-5 in the postseason and an NFL record of 7 wins on the road, his experience might come handy in last night’s situation. Still, coach Harbaugh didn’t want to change anything.

And according to the player himself, young rookie deserved to play.

“I thought Lamar did a great job of just hanging in there. You know, he gave us a chance at the end.” Flacco said when one reporter asked about Jackson’s decisions.

There are several places where the 2012 Super Bowl MVP might end up next year. It is hard to believe that he would be a long-term solution in some cases, but still, two or three years of good playing are still in front of him, especially if he is healthy enough.

The Washington Redskins might sign him after their troubles with Alex Smith who might not be back on the field ever again. The future of Eli Manning is still not clear yet, and the same thing goes for Jameis Winson in Tampa. Also, there are several young quarterbacks who need a good tutor, so don’t be surprised if Flacco ends up in Arizona or Buffalo. We’ve seen even bigger surprises than that.

And just imagine if Ben Roethlisberger decides to retire. Have in mind that Flacco played for Pittsburgh University during his first two years at college.

One thing is sure, he isn’t going to stay in Baltimore.

Though, we are sure that he would want to.

“I love the people of Baltimore man,” Flacco said. “To be honest with you I can’t imagine a better 11 years. This place becoming my home and my children’s home…you know just how many different life changes I went through and how much we won here.”
