Sergio Aguero’s Magic Beats Arsenal, 3-1

February 3, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Manchester City defeated Arsenal earlier today in the central event of this weekend’s Premiership round. It was 3-1 for the reigning champions of England, with masterful Sergio Aguero, who scored all three goals.

It is once again proved that the Argentinian is, in fact, the vital piece in Guardiola’s puzzle, with all due respect to other players.

After the game, the Spanish manager commented on his performance, saying that Aguero was born with a talent to score goals.

And indeed, the statistics are backing up that claim. In his 227 appearances, the player netted 157 times, and recorded 10 hat-tricks counting today’s one. Only Alan Shearer has more, 11.

“I don’t have to describe anything about that, everybody knows, what is important is how he fights. I think it’s incredible,” Guardiola said about his best scorer.

The hosts were dominating right from the start, as Aguero broke the lock of Leno’s goal with less than half a minute since the opening whistle. After the game in Newcastle, when he scored in the 25th second, this is the second fastest goal of the season in the Premiership. For the player, that isn’t of great importance, as long as his team won the match.

“It was important to win because the other day I scored after 25 seconds and we lost so today I am very happy,” said Aguero, and added that he and his teammates are already focused on the next game against Everton. “It is important to fight every game and now we need to think about Everton because I think it will be so difficult.”

A few minutes later, City could increase the advantage, but Aymeric Laporte’s goal was disallowed because of alleged offside.

Arsenal used a small disruption in City’s game after this situation and equalized through Laurent Koscielny, who made a fine header in the 11th minute and beat Ederson.

However, that was the only thing Gunners done in today’s event. The Sky-Blues again took the wheel and dictated the tempo on the field, pressuring the helpless visitors on all parts of the court.

Aguero got his second goal of the match exactly one minute before the end of the halftime. Raheem Sterling did a great job while setting up the score, and the Argentinian didn’t have too many troubles while executing.

The champions continued to dominate after the break as if nothing happened in the first 45 minutes. Citizens were so motivated, and focused on the game, that the current result, which was in their favor, didn’t mean a thing for their players.

Guardiola explained that, saying that he and the boys talked a lot after the game in Newcastle and that they learned about their mistakes in that contest.

“We spoke many times in our three years together, but especially in the last days, we are good when we do what we have to do.”

Just to remind you, Man City lost against the Magpies after leading in the beginning.

Aguero had a lot of luck with his third hit, because Sterling’s cross deflected right to his chest and the ball bounced across the goal line. It was the end of all hopes of the Gunners for avoiding a loss in Manchester.

Citizens have two tough games in the next seven days. They will be facing struggling Everton on the road, already this Wednesday, and after that have a clash with Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday.

These two teams are in desperate situations, and have nothing to lose, which is why Guardiola and his team have to be very careful against them.

Arsenal heads for Huddersfield next Saturday, to meet the last-placed Terriers.
