ASB Report: Top 3 World Series Favorites

July 12, 2019 By Kreighton R Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s only the All-Star break, but it’s not too early to think about placing some World Series futures bets. Timing is the key to cashing in big on a futures bet. For maximum profit, the wager must be placed before it becomes clear who is most likely to win.

So many unpredictable things can happen between July and October. Bettors will get rewarded much heavier for backing a league favorite team in July than they would in September.

This is the perfect time of the MLB season to take some risks with futures bets. My goal today is to introduce you to the top-3 World Series favorites from Bovada.

It is easy to become caught up in the daily grind of baseball betting. Sometimes we forget that day-to-day moneylines are not the only way to profit from America’s Pastime.

Below, I cite the chances of certain events occurring (winning division, winning WS, etc.). These are pulled from FiveThirtyEight and derived by their simulation engine. This engine simulates the remainder of the season thousands of times to determine the most likely outcomes.

Placing an MLB futures bet in July gives you an elite team to root for down the stretch of the season. It is very fun. If looking to make a World Series futures bet today, the following 3 teams would be excellent choices:

Los Angeles Dodgers (+270)

The Dodgers begin the second half as baseball’s World Series favorite. LA has reached the Fall Classic in each of the past 2 seasons but has nothing to show for it.

FiveThirtyEight confirms that the Dodgers deserve to be listed as the #1 favorite. Their simulation engine gives LA a 23% chance to win the 2019 World Series – tops in the league.

Chance of Making Playoffs: >99%
Chance of Winning NL West: >99%
Chance of Winning World Series: 23%
Current Record: 60-32
On Pace For: 106-56
Projected Record: 102-60
Best Hitter

Cody Bellinger

.336 AVG/30 HR/71 RBI

Best Pitcher

Hyun-Jin Ryu

10-2/1.73 ERA/0.91 WHIP

Last Year’s Finish

Lost in WS to Red Sox

New York Yankees (+333)

Also like the Dodgers, New York had their 2018 season ended by the Boston Red Sox. Fans and players alike are expecting this season to be different.

Despite a slew of injuries, the Yankees continue to get the job done. The Bronx Bombers sit atop a talented AL East division and are poised to make a deep run through the 2019 MLB Postseason.

Bovada and FiveThirtyEight also agree that the Yankees are the second favorite to win the 2019 World Series – with a 19% chance.

Chance of Making Playoffs: 98%
Chance of Winning NL West: 86%
Chance of Winning World Series: 19%
Current Record: 57-31
On Pace For: 105-57
Projected Record: 102-60
Best Hitter

DJ LaMahieu

.336 AVG/12 HR/63 RBI

Best Pitcher

Domingo Herman

10-2/3.67 ERA/1.09 WHIP

Last Year’s Finish

Lost in ALDS to Red Sox

Houston Astros (+375)

The 2017 MLB champions figure to be a popular bet once again in 2019 after also having their 2018 season ended by Boston.

The Vegas odds once again line up with FiveThirtyEight’s projections as the Astros are given the 3rd-highest chance of winning the Fall Classic, 17%.

Chance of Making Playoffs: 97%
Chance of Winning NL West: 93%
Chance of Winning World Series: 17%
Current Record: 57-34
On Pace For: 101-61
Projected Record: 100-62
Best Hitter

Michael Brantley

.324 AVG/12 HR/46 RBI

Best Pitcher

Justin Verlander

10-4/2.98 ERA/0.81 WHIP

Last Year’s Finish

Lost in ALCS to Red Sox
