Zion Williamson Signs With the Jordan Brand, MJ Thrilled

July 23, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Earlier today, Zion Williamson announced that the became a part of the Jordan Brand, by signing a deal which will keep him there for many years to come. The No.1 overall pick from this year’s NBA draft and the biggest talent according to the majority of experts, finally chose his sportswear manufacturer.

Since he became the ultimate hype in the basketball world, many big companies were trying to sign Zion, who waited to see his options. And after quite some time, the youngster decided that it is best for him to become a part of the Jordan Brand.

Williamson revealed that today on his Instagram account.

“I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family,” he said.

The former Duke University star and the College player of the year, also said that Michael Jordan represents his role model and the person to whom he looked up to as a child. That also affected his decision.

“I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league and having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had and continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to, and I really can’t express how happy and excited I am for this journey.”

The details of this deal are not revealed, but some sources are suggesting that Zion’s annual income from it won’t be under $10 million. For a rookie that is an extremely good deal, and there are probably many possibilities which might increase this sum. Bonuses depending on achievements and honors are a regular part of every similar contract.

Michael Jordan himself addressed the public after closing this deal. Air Michael was thrilled to have signed such a talent whose potential is enormous. He also explained that Zion is going to become the cornerstone of the brand’s future. The young player was very confident in his abilities during the negotiations, which is why he became a part of Jordan Brand.

“Zion’s incredible determination, character, and play are inspiring,” Jordan said. “He’s an essential part of the new talent that will help lead the brand into the future. He told us he would ‘shock the world,’ and asked us to believe him. We do.”

While most people see this brand as a part of Nike, it really isn’t like that when it comes to competition on the market. Nike has its own plans, the same as Jordan Brand. This was their response to Nike’s expansion and domination in the league, as the mother company supplies 67% of the basketball players with sneakers.

Meanwhile, Jordan Brand is currently at 7%, but they have two superstars like Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul, and they hope to increase that share after Zion’s landing.

The 19-year old from Spartanburg, South Carolina is one of the most attractive athletes on the planet right now. There is no doubt that Jordan Brand gained a lot with him becoming one of the faces of this company.

Zion is expected to become one of the best ever players in the NBA, and no doubt the pressure is high on this young guy. He recently decided to withdraw from the USA basketball team and skip the upcoming World Cup in China, in order to prepare better for the next season.
