Crazy NFL Saturday: Bills, Texans Make Radical Changes, Seahawks Moving Up the Ladder

August 31, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

It was a crazy Saturday all over the NFL as we saw several big trades and moves which could be an intro for a hot few days. With only one week until the start of the season, the teams will make the final adjustments and try to execute a few more deals.

Cut day triggered many unexpected deals and decisions. Two biggest news are LeSean McCoy’s release and the trade between the Seahawks and the Texans which brought Jadeveon Clowney to Seattle.

It was a bomb this morning when the Buffalo Bills decided to release the 6-time Pro Bowl and rely on their other options. The 2013 rushing leader, who landed in Buffalo in 2015 was, according to the sources, surprised and very frustrated because of this decision, as he didn’t expect it.

The 31-year old had his worst season in 2018, with just 514 yards rushed, which is far below the expectations. His entire stint with the Bills was marked with inconsistency. The first year after coming from the Eagles was bad, but the next two were excellent, with combined 2,405 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Bills’ rookie RB Devin Singletary has been impressive….and Buffalo now releasing RB LeSean McCoy only validates how much.

Because of that, the Bills decided to add more depth to the running back position, and the team brought Frank Gore and TJ Yeldon during the free agency. However, the main reason for McCoys’ release was the preseason improvement of the rookie Devin Singletary, the third-round pick from FAU.

Also, the Bills tried to trade McCoy, but there weren’t any offers. Eventually, that forced them to give up on once the best running back in the league.

While everybody talked about this situation, another detonation came from Texas. Houston decided the ship Jadeveon Clowney to Seattle in exchange for the third-round pick in 2020 NFL draft, DE Barkevious Mingo and LB Jacob Martin.

According to all the experts the Seahawks came out as the absolute winners from this deal, while on the other side nobody understands the decision of the Texans who lost their key player alongside DeShaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins.

Instead of trying to form a team who will attack the playoffs and be one of the potential surprises of the season, Houston made the wrong turn. On the other side, the Seahawks will now have a decent replacement in the pash-rush area for Frank Clark who ended up in Kansas City last April.

If we add that Pete Carroll’s team has two first-round picks in the next draft, and 10 picks in general, we could see that the Seahawks are making an excellent foundation for the upcoming years. We might even expect them in the Super Bowl race sooner than anyone anticipated.

Meanwhile, the Texans are in an “organizational mess” as some say, and moves like this one are just backing up those claims. With Watson and Hopkins spending their best years, this team should have been more aggressive on the market, and try to add a few more pieces which would make them a Super Bowl contender.

Truth to be told, they traded for Carlos Hyde, Brown’s RB, giving up G Martinas Ranking. It is a good thing for the duo mentioned above, who will finally get some help in the offense. The entire productivity of Texans’ depended upon these guys, that is their creativity and inspiration.

Another Texans’ trade: Houston is trading G Martinas Rankin to Kansas City for RB Carlos Hyde, per league source. Houston gets the RB help it needs.

The Seahawks have also made another big decision today. They’ve cut QB Paxton Lynch and left Geno Smith as Russell Wilson’s backup.

Carroll was pleased with the way Geno led the offense during the preseason games.

“He looks in control of the offense. He gets it. He really understands it. So that’s a real positive,” said Seahawks’ head coach.

And as the latest news, it seems that the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliot are finally in talks about the running back’s new contract. According to the league insiders, the negotiations between the two sides reached a serious level, and we might expect some news in the near future.
