Ezekiel Elliot Strikes a Deal With the Cowboys, Signs a $90 Million Extension

September 4, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Ezekiel Elliot and Jerry Jones have finally reached an agreement, and Zeke will stay in Dallas for the next eight years. According to various sources, the running back has signed a six-year extension, which includes $50 million of guaranteed money.

The extension is worth $90 million, and Zeke now has the highest salary among all the RBs in the league. It basically means that the total value of his contract with the Cowboys over the upcoming eight years is $103 million. That makes him the first player in this franchise whose deal broke the $100 million limit.

The player will practice with the team already today and is ready to play against the Giants this Sunday.

Todd Archer who works at ESPN and covers the Cowboys was the first one who shared the news this morning on his Tweeter account.

“The Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott have agreed to a six-year extension, according to a source. The plan is for Elliott to be at practice Wednesday,” Archer wrote.

Elliot terminated his holdout yesterday to come back to Dallas and finalize the deal. Zeke refused to participate in any activities the Cowboys had and went to Cabo San Lucas to work individually until he signs a new deal. The player wanted to be safe about his future and didn’t want to wait for an offer any longer. During the holdout period, both he and Jerry Jones didn’t want to back out from their positions. Still, it appears that the Cowboys’ owner had a perfect strategy for closing the deal the way he wanted.

Meanwhile, Zeke wanted to secure his deal as soon as possible, because Dallas has two more superstars waiting to sign new deals – Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper. Knowing that the financial resources of the Cowboys are limited due to the salary cap, Elliot and his manager were determined that they get a satisfying offer quickly.

All sorts of tactics were involved on both sides. Luckily for the Cowboys’ fans, everything ended in the best possible way for them. Arguably the best running back in the league is now happy and ready for the new challenges.

Final terms on #Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott: 6 years on the extension, $90M in new money with $50M guaranteed. Paid. 💰💰💰

Since he entered the NFL back in 2016, Zeke has been dominating in most of the running back categories. He collected 4.048 yards despite having suspensions and missing some games. He had 868 carries and 19 games in which he eclipsed the 100 rushing yards limit. Also, Elliot recorded 30 rushes of 20+ yards. He led the league in rushing yards per game in the last three seasons, becoming the first player to do so in the last 87 years.

All that before his 24th birthday.

The Cowboys have one of the most talented teams in the entire NFL, and it is expected from them to attack the Super Bowl trophy pretty soon. With Elliot, Prescott, and Cooper, and along with other players on the current roster, Dallas is among the best sides in the league. Plus, they are very young, as all three of them are yet to enter their prime.

Prescott and Elliot have been fantastic in their rookie season establishing themselves as one of the best players in their positions. But after that they have experienced a drop in form in 2017. During the last campaign, Cowboys reached the playoffs and defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card game, but lost against the Rams in the Divisional round.

Be sure that this won’t be last of the blockbusting news from Arlington. Expect more from Jerry Jones, especially now, when Prescott and Cooper await their deals on the table.
