Cleveland Browns Defeat New York Jets on Monday Night Football, 23-3

September 16, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Cleveland Browns have defeated the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, posting their first victory in this campaign. The final result was 23-3 for the guests from Ohio, who controlled the match from the start until its finish.

It is the first win on MNF for the Browns since 2008.

Freddie Kitchens’ guys didn’t experience any problems at the MetLife Stadium, as they faced injury-hauled team, whose situation even went worse during the match.

Sam Darnold’s replacement, QB Trevor Siemian had to go out in the second period, after Myles Garrett’s rough tackle. It appears that Siemian dislocated his ankle, but somehow he managed to walk off the field. He was replaced by Luke Falk, who became a first-team member this Sunday when head coach Adam Gase decided to pull him from the practice squad.

Truth to be told, Siemian wasn’t of any help for the hosts as he had just three completions in 5 attempts for three yards! Meanwhile, Falk ended the clash with solid productivity. 20 of 25 for 198 yards, but without a TD.

The Jets were looking awful in the attack, not being able to endanger the Browns at least once during the entire game. Le’Veon Bell rushed for 68 yards on 21 carries and was often stopped without any problems. Robby Anderson had 4 receptions for 81 yards, while Bell had 10 for 61.

Cleveland scored two field goals on their two opening drives, to reach a 6-0 lead. At the start of the second quarter, Nick Chubb had a 19-yard rush for the first touchdown of the event, raising the advantage of his crew to 13 points. Up until the halftime, we’ve seen one field goal on both sides.

The play of the day was Odell Beckham’s 89-yard touchdown, his career-long. With 3:32 left in the third, Mayfield found the fantastic wide receiver who developed a speed of more than 21 mph and was unreachable for the Jets’ defense. Beckham stated that he constantly had cramps and that he felt lucky for managing to finish his run towards the endzone.

“When I was running down there, I was just praying that I was going to make it,” said Brown’s No.13. “I gave it all I had.”

This was his first trip back to the place where he became one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Odell spoke about that too.

“Honestly, it was a warm reception. It was nothing but love, and I was just happy for being able — I felt like I lost enough games here, so to leave this one with a win is a good feeling.”

Beckham had 6 receptions for 161 yards and a TD, while the next target for Baker Mayfield was Damion Ratley who had 50 yards in two receptions. Nick Chubb rushed for 62 yards on 18 carries.

Mayfield didn’t leave such a great impression this Monday. Despite collecting 325 yards, 19 of 35 for a TD and an interception, he was looking a bit slow. We could even say that the Browns offense, in general, wasn’t that shinny and that they had a lot of luck for having the weak Jets on the other side of the field.

They once again had too many penalties – 9 for 85 yards, two of them by Garrett who roughed the passer on both occasions. Although, the former No.1 pick did record three sacks today.

Browns meet with the LA Rams at home next Sunday and after that travel to Baltimore. If they perform like tonight, there is no way for them to avoid losses.

Meanwhile, the Jets head for Foxborough to meet the Patriots.
