It is on ! Miocic vs. Cormier Vol. III

September 23, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Ladies and gentlemen prepare yourself for the third and the final chapter in Cormier vs. Miocic rivalry. At the moment everything points towards another spectacle, and judging by the way Dana White also spoke about it, we can expect even a date pretty soon.

Daniel Cormier decided to go back into the ring for one more time. One of the best UFC fighters of all times officially announced that today. But he has one condition. The opponent in that last battle needs to be Stipe Miocic.

“I’m gonna fight this guy again. My intention is to fight him in the right way. … It has to be against Stipe. No one else matters,” said Cormier at Ariel Helwani’s show earlier today.

Cormier lost to Miocic at UFC 241 this August, and Stipe regained his belt, which he lost in July 2018 once he suffered a knockout against DC. It was one of the biggest fights in UFC history, and Cormier stated before the event that he considers retiring once it is done.

At Helwani’s MMA Show, he explained that a lot of bad stuff and tragedies had happened to his family and that he wanted to spend more time with his closest ones. Yet, following the loss, he couldn’t erase that bad feeling about the defeat from his mind. At some point, although he indicated a retirement, his wife stood up and gave him the support to have that one last fight.

“It was Selena,” DC revealed to Helwani what his wife has said to him.”‘Dan, you don’t end like that. This is not how you end. You lose again it’s just meant to be’…. ‘I don’t want you not to do this now and in four years down the line starting ‘I should have did it again.'”

Cormier also explained that he wasn’t at his usual level in the rematch against Miocic because of some family affairs which distracted him from the fight. His father died just one week after the UFC 241, and he and DC were in touch on the morning of the battle. That call affected him and his focus, but he doesn’t want to diminish Stipe’s win.

“I’m really not trying to take anything away from Miocic and his corner,” Cormier said. “I just lost. But I felt I could have done a lot of things better.”

At the moment when Miocic finished Cormier, the champion was better on the scoreboards, but he couldn’t stop the sudden fury of Stipe who used just one little mistake to turn the tide into his favor.

Right now, it seems that the entire UFC is already in the mode for putting this match on the table as soon as possible. Dana White stated that he is working on it, and wants to arrange a new battle in the shortest period of time. It will no doubt be one of the biggest fighting events in the history of the sport. The profits from it will probably be record-breaking.

Some were even mentioning UFC 245 to be the event which will have Stipe vs. DC fight, but according to some sources both Miocic and White are not into that. The first because he wants more time to prepare and heal from that last fight, and the latter, because he probably plans to make a separate spectacle from it and attract as many new sponsors.

Neither the time or the venue of the fight have been declared, and it could easily be overseas like with Khabib vs. Poirier, of some big offer comes to White from abroad.

Get ready to rumble; we have another clash of the titans.
