Packers’ Offense Fails to Execute When Needed the Most, Eagles Win on TNF, 34-27

September 27, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field this Thursday Night with 34-27. This was without a doubt one of the most frustrating nights for the Packers in the last few years, as they missed so many chances to win, and were followed by bad luck throughout the game.

In the decisive moments of the match during the fourth quarter, Davante Adams had to go out because of a toe injury. Up until that moment, the fantastic wide receiver had one of his best games ever, catching 10 passes for 180 yards. The home team had four downs one yard away from the Eagles’ end zone, with the result 34-27 for the guests from Philly. None of them was successful.

“We had chances,” said Aaron Rodgers at the press conference. “We had a lot of chances down the stretch, we’ve moved the ball all night long, we just struggled in the red zone.”

The No.12 in Green bay threw his first interception of the year, and he did it 28 seconds before the end. The Packs had second-and-7 when Nigel Bradham picked off Rodgers’ pass in the end zone. It was the second mistake of the match for AR who also fumbled the ball in the late part of the second period after being sacked by Derek Barnett. It led to a touchdown of the guests.

Rodgers posted 422 yards, 34 of 53 for two touchdown passes and one interception, and was moving the ball superbly, but the execution of the Packers was once again very, very poor.

“We just got to be better in the red zone. You play against a good team, and that is a good team, no matter they are 1-2, you got to score touchdowns,” Rodgers said.

Adams injury wasn’t the only bad thing which happened to the Packs tonight, as RB Jamaal Williams had to go out in the first period after being hit by Barnett. It had a big impact on the hosts’ game, as Philly has one of the best rushing defenses in the league.

On the other side, the guy who shined tonight was Jordan Howard with three touchdowns. He had 115 yards from the scrimmage, 87 by rushing and two TDs, and 28 receiving and one TD. Besides him, Alshon Jeffrey and Dallas Goedert added one touchdown each.

The Eagles had a lot of troubles with injuries before this game, but somehow, both Jeffrey and Goedert recovered for this match and eventually played a major role in it. Head coach Doug Pederson was thrilled with the way his guys performed tonight.

“Couldn’t be more proud of the boys, the locker room, for playing for full 60 minutes, we talked about that this week,” said Pederson who believes that his team could gain a huge boost after this victory. “Hopefully it gives us momentum.”

Carson Wentz threw three touchdowns and had 160 yards completing 16 of his 27 passes. In the moments when he wasn’t doing well on the field, Philly’s running game was saving the team. The guests had 176 rushing yards, while on the other side, the defense allowed just 76 yards to Green Bay. It will be very clear to you once we say that Rodgers had the most rushing yards in Packers’ crew, 46 on 5 carries. Aaron Jones posted 21 in 13 carries.

This is a massive win for the Eagles who are now 2-2, and have a home game next week against the New York Jets. They should post a triumph in that one, and fully recover from a loss against the Detroit Lions in Week 3. Following that, Wentz and the guys have three consecutive road matches, against the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Buffalo Bills.

On the other side, the Packers are traveling to Dallas in the next round, to face Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliot. After that, Matt LaFleur’s guys have two contests at home, against the Lions and the Raiders.
