Indianapolis Colts Create a Sensation and Defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-13

The Indianapolis Colts handed the first loss of the season to the Kansas City Chiefs, locking down their offense and stifling Patrick Mahomes. The guests from Indiana won with 19-13 at the Arrowhead Stadium, creating a massive sensation on this Sunday Night Football.

The hero of the match for the visiting side was the legendary Adam Vinatieri, who scored 4 field goals, the last one 2:27 before the end, to lift his Colts to a safe distance, and to give them a 19-10 advantage.

Also, what can’t be forgotten is Colts’ superb defense, the one who interrupted many streaks the Chiefs had. They stopped their 25+ points streak of games, which lasted for 25 contests. It was also the match with the lowest number of points for Mahomes since he began the starting quarterback in Kansas.

The guests’ defense was all over the MVP this Sunday, sacking him four times, and pressuring him throughout the entire game. He ended the night with 321 yards and one TD, completing 22 of 39 passes. He also picked up an injury when his LT Cam Erving stepped on his already hurt ankle.

“Just reaggravated it a little bit there in the first half and then got stepped on in the second half,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, it’s going to be a little sore tomorrow.”

Mahomes’ only TD pass was at the start of the second period when he threw a 27-yard pass fo, Byron Pringle. It was the last time the hosts were up, 10-7. The Chiefs’ WR had 103 yards on 6 receptions. Mecole Hardman had 79 on four, and Travis Kelce 70 on the same number of catches. But what was really terrible in Kansas City’s game was running. The league’s best offense throughout the last season had just 36 yards through the ground, while on the other side, Colts posted 180.

Marlon Mack was unstoppable, with 132 yards on 29 carries. Jacoby Brissett carried the ball into the end zone for the only TD of the guests.

“The offensive line created the holes for me running the ball,” said Mack following the game. “The defense played an excellent game, coming up here stopping this team, holding this team to 13 points, it was crazy.”

Brissett was 18 of 29 for 151 yards and an interception having a miserable 32.4 quarterback rating. But then again, the defense did it all. They sacked Mahomes four times for 33 negative yards and forced LeSean McCoy to fumble the ball once.

“There was just an air of confidence and belief that we would do what we did today,” said Indianapolis’ head coach Frank Reich. “The one emotion we were not feeling is shock. I can’t even explain it,” Colts coach Frank Reich said after the 19-13 victory. “The way guys were walking down the hallway, it was `We’re not going to be denied.”

The Colts are now 3-2, and are ahead of two really big games for them. At first, they host the divisional rivals the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 20. AFC South is probably the most exciting division in the NFL at the moment. Texans and Colts are both 3-2, while Jaguars and Titans have one win fewer, making all of them active in the race for the No.1 there. So each and every victory over the divisional rivals has enormous worth. Following that, they head for Denver to face the Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are 4-1 and have the same opponents coming up next, only one week later. At first, the Texans at home, and then against the Broncos also at home. The margin for error is too small for Andy Reid’s guys, as the Oakland Raiders sit behind them with 3-2, anxiously waiting for the Chiefs to make one slip and to reach the first position in the division. Although that might sound unreal, it is the one thing nobody should forget.
