Mahomes Suffers a Massive Injury, Chiefs Easily Defeat Broncos, 30-6

October 18, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Kansas City Chief paid a huge price to win in Denver. Their starting quarterback and the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes dislocated his kneecap and left the game with nine minutes left in the first half. Eventually, the guests defeated the Broncos 30-6, but it appears that they lost Mahomes until the end of the season.

Chiefs’ quarterback tired to perform a quarterback sneak on the fourth down, but picked up a severe injury which disturbed players of both teams.

“I’ve never seen anything like that on the field before. His knee was literally all the way to the side, his kneecap was,” Denver’s defensive end Shelby Harris said. “I hope everything is good and I hope he has a speedy recovery.”

Although he went to the X-rays, Mahomes will have to take the MRI before knowing the exact degree if his injury. According to some experts, if the ligaments are damaged, he could be out for the season. Now that would be a massive blow for the Chiefs and the league in general.

The 24-year old waited for his teammates in the locker room following the match, and he was feeling positive.

“Take care of yourself this weekend. Enjoy yourself. Be smart. We got more to go, baby,” he said.

Mahomes replacement was the 35-year old Matt Moore who did a solid job. Until the end of the game, he threw 117 yards, 10 of 19, had one touchdown to Tyreek Hill and suffered one sack. But overall, he was solid. Until the moment Mahomes went out, he had a touchdown toss and just one incompleted pass, 10 of 11 for 76 yards.

The night didn’t start as planned for the Chiefs, as Denver scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. Royce Freeman carried the football into the endzone after 5:54 of play, but the Broncos failed to make the two-point conversion.

But after that, the Chiefs came back and very quickly turned the result upside down. Mecole Hardman caught a 21-yard pass from Mahomes, and Harrison Butker posted a field goal with one minute to go in the first. He would add another one at the start of the second before Reggie Ragland had a 5-yard fumble return during the middle of the same sequence quarter.

Moore connected with Tyreek Hill for a 57-yard pass for 27-6 in the third, while Butker sealed the match with a 39-yard field goal with 5:04 left. Hill had 74 yards on three receptions and a touchdown, Kelce had 44 on six, while LeSean McCoy collected 64 yards on the ground on 12 carries.

On the other side, Joe Flacco was sacked 8 times for 72 negative yards. The Chiefs’ defense really hurt the former Super Bowl MVP. He didn’t have any help on the field, as the Broncos’ attack looked awful. His receivers dropped clear passes, and the offensive line didn’t protect him at all, and eventually, he had three fumbles.

The former Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback and the three-time Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman, who is an analyst at FOX, was shocked by the way Broncos looked.

“This is about as bad an offense as I’ve seen. I’m shocked there’s as many people still here at the game.”

Flacco threw for 213 yards, 21 of 34, without interceptions and touchdowns. Courtland Sutton was his primary target, as he caught six passes for 87 yards. Emmanuel Sanders had 60 yards in 5 cathces. The running back duo Lindsay-Freeman combined for 71 yards.

Up next, the Broncos are facing the Indianapolis Colts on the road. They would have to win that one to preserve the chances for the playoffs. Denver is 2-5 now.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs (5-2) are hosting the Packers at home.
