Green Bay’s Aarons Lead the Way in Kansas City, Packers Beat Chiefs, 31-24

October 27, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Green Bay Packers posted their seventh win of the season tonight, as they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs at their Arrowhead Stadium, 31-24. It is the fourth straight win of the Packs who secured it in the final period.

The man who goes by the name Aaron carried Matt LeFlur’s team to another win. But it wasn’t Rogers, the two-time MVP of the league. Instead of him, Aaron Jones took over the wheel, superbly leading the guests, posting two touchdowns and playing a vital role in the finish of the game.

But what was more important is that he recorded 226 yards from the scrimmage, 67 rushing, and 159 through the air. Although he is a runningback in this Packers team, he was Rogers’ favorite target.

Another of the visitors’ RBs was in the mood for showing his wide receiving skills. It was Jamaal Williams who also caught a pass for one touchdown. It was the first time in Rodgers’ career that he threw three TD passes to runningbacks.

Kansas City’s head coach Andy Ried admitted that when Rogers has his night, everything is easy for the boys in green and yellow.

“Now listen he’s a future Hall of Fame quarterback, and impeccable Hall of Fame throws there,” said Reid. “These guys, I don’t know how they got the ball in there. A couple of those, their hands were right there…and the son of a gun got them in there.”

Rodgers ended the contest with 305 yards, 23 of 33, had three touchdown tosses without an interception, and being sacked five times for 49 negative yards. Even though he didn’t have Davante Adams, Rodgers was running his passing game as always. Only this time, he had help from an unexpected side.

Also, it needs to be said that the Packs’ defense was excellent as always and that they stepped up in the critical situation. They held the Chiefs to just 7 points in the second half, following a surge in the second quarter, during which the hosts scored 17 points.

The game opened with two consecutive TDs of the guests. Jones carried the ball into the endzone with 8:43 left in the first, while Jamaal Williams added the first rushing TD with 2:09 to go. However, the Chiefs bounced back. At first, Travis Kelce scored following Matt Moore’s 29-yard pass just under four minutes into the second quarter. With 6:14 left in that part of the game, Mecole Hardman received a 30-yard pass from Moore, and 56 seconds before the break, Harrison Butker scored a field goal from 28 yards.

The Packs leveled the result through Mason Crosby’s 35-yarder, after which then came the exciting final period.

Williams brought the lead back to the guests. Then another Williams, Damien, from the Chiefs carried the ball for three yards to equalize with 9:01 to go. However, 59 seconds later, we’ve seen a 67-yard delight from Jones, who delivered a fantastic score.

After that, the hosts had to punt the ball, hoping that they might get it back. But with Jones and Williams in the zone, there was no way for Ried’s guys to stop Packers’ running game. The guests held the ball until the end, having 11 plays lasting for 5 minutes and 4 seconds.

Rodgers’ pass to Williams was the play of the game for many, and during the onfield interview, Packers’ TE Jimmy Graham praised his quarterback for making that play.

“He’s special,” said Graham. “It’s moments like that that make him the GOAT, it really does.”

The Chiefs, however, appeared once again without the reigning MVP, Patrick Mahomes, who might be ready for the next game. Matt Moore did a nice job today, although his team lost. He didn’t have any picks and was 24 for 36 for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns. What turned out to be problematic for KC, was the ground game, as the hosts recorded just 88 yards on the ground. LeSean McCoy had 40 yards on 9 carries and a fumble.

As for the receiving core, Tyreke Hill had 76 yards on 6 receptions, Kelce added 63, while Hardman ended the night with 55.

The Chiefs are hosting the Vikings next week, and they simply have to win that one, regardless of Mahomes’ availability. Meanwhile, Green Bay goes to LA to face the Chargers did them a favor and defeated the Bears earlier yesterday.
