Golden State Warriors Lose Against New York Knicks, 122-124 OT

December 12, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Golden State Warriors have lost against the last-placed team of the Eastern Conference, the New York Knicks. After making a comeback and forcing overtime, many believed that Steve Kerr’s guys might take this one, but the final result after the additional five minutes was 124-122.

Although they haven’t won too many games this season, and are arguably one of the weakest sides in the league, Golden State entered this event as a favorite. Yet again, it didn’t go very well for the Dub Nation.

The Knicks started to pull away in the last three and a half minutes of the first period, once they shut down the Warriors, not allowing them to score a single point up until the end of the sequence. They would score 11 straight points to win that part of the event with 30-20.

Mike Miller’s guys made another push in the late part of the second quarter, reaching a 22-point edge, 63-41, and in those moments, some of the fans at Chase Center hit the exits.

However, following the halftime break, it appears that the home team found its rhythm. GSW started to play better and to cut down the deficit slowly. A 16-2 run at the end of the third and coming into the final period completely changed the situation on the floor, and the hosts were now up 91-89.

Unfortunately for the home team’s fans, that push didn’t last for too long, as the Knicks almost instantly responded with 10 straight points delivered, for a 99-91 lead.

Wit 15.6 seconds to go, the guests were up 111-106 and the refs called a foul on Alec Burks awarding him three free throws. Miller challenged that decision, but it remained. Burks hit all three shots, and RJ Barrett just one on the other end, which left the possibility for the hosts to tie the game. With 5.5 seconds to go, D’Angelo Russell did that. Elfrid Payton would miss the game-winner as time went by.

In the extra five minutes, New York scored 13 points, Golden State 11, but this time the guests from the Big Apple kept their composure in the decisive moments.

“I tell you what, it is good as it feels, I am never been happier in my life,” said Knicks’ interim coach Miller.

D'Angelo Russell absolutely buries a three to send this one to OT.

Marcus Morris Sr., was excellent in this match, scoring 36 points with 10 boards, and with a solid shooting performance. Morris was 10 for 18 from the field, hitting 5 threes, and added 11 points off the foul stripe in 12 attempts.

Julius Randle also had a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards, while RJ Barrett scored 22 with 10 rebounds. The Knicks would outrebound the hosts 58-46.

Among the hosts, we had D’Angelo Russell with 32 buckets and 6 assists. Alec Burks had 18.

Draymond Green posted a triple-double with 14 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds.

The Knicks (5-20) now head for Sacramento to play against the in-form Kings on Friday and have a contest in Denver on Sunday before getting back home.

Meanwhile, the Warriors (5-21) meet the Utah Jazz on Friday in Salt Lake City. After that, Steve Kerr’s team will, too, play against the Sacramento Kings, only at home.
