Brooklyn Nets Stun the LA Lakers at Staples, 104-102

March 11, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Brooklyn Nets have stunned the LA Lakers at Staples last night and got away with a win. The final result of this event was 104-102 for the guests from the East, with the note that Anthony Davis missed a buzzer-beater three, which could keep the win in LA.

“We knew this was a dangerous opponent,” said Frank Vogel. “Any time you have a coaching change the team is going to have a little bit of a spike.”

After defeating the Clippers and the Bucks during the weekend, this was something the purple and gold fans didn’t hope for. Nets are in trouble, and their recent head coach change is proving that. Instead of Kenny Atkinson who built this team, Jacque Vaughn took over the wheel, his assistant.

The former Orlando Magic HC, admitted that he watched AD’s shot with a high dose of tension.

“It’s like the joy and pain of basketball,” Vaughn said. “I had the perfect sight line. I see it leave, just watching the flight of it,” Vaughn said.

Even though they appear without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving the Nets are still in the combination for the playoffs in the East, and the way it seems, Brooklyn will reach the postseason for the second time in a row.

The guests managed to get back from an 11-point deficit during the first period, 31-20, and to be competitive with the hosts in one very game, which was these two sides trading buckets and changing lead throughout the majority of the second and the third quarter.

Eventually, the Nets would pull away, reaching a 97-88 advantage in the final sequence with 6:44 left, but allowed for the LAL to come back one again.

Spencer Dinwiddie, made the clutch shot with 28.3 seconds to go, breaking a tie which stood at 102-all following Davis three. Dinwiddie had 23 points, which was a team-high, along with seven assists and four boards. Also, he was perfect from the free-throw line, 8-of-8.

With one point fewer, Caris LeVert stood right behind Dinwiddie. The Nets’ shooting guard had 22 buckets seven boards and four dimes. Joe Harris scored 12, Chris Chiozza 11, and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot 13 off the bench. DeAndre Jordan had 8 and 12 boards.

Among the Lakers, LBJ and Davis led the way. LeBron posted 29 points, had 12 boards, and nine assists, shooting 12-for-22. Davis had 26 points with 8 boards and one block. Apart from them, the only one worth mentioning was Kyle Kuzma with 14 buckets.

What was interesting is the fact that LAL had just 12 free-throw attempts. It is one of the worst records since the start of the season, in both percentage and the number of tries. Also, the hosts had problems with overall shooting in the second period, and Frank Vogel admitted that.

“We didn’t make shots down the stretch in the second half,” Vogels admitted.

The Lakers (49-14) have two more games at home, and both are going to be very interesting. This Thursday, the purple and gold host the Houston Rockets, and on Sunday, the Denver Nuggets, who are anxious to make a run at them at the finish of the season.

On the other side, the Nets (30-34) just started their tour throughout Callifornia. After this, they travel to San Francisco to meet the Warriors on Thursday, and after that face the Clippers and the Kings.
