Paulo Dybala and Paolo Maldini Positive on COVID-19

March 21, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Big news arrived from Italy tonight, as Juventus’ Paulo Dybala and the legendary Paolo Maldini tested positive on COVID-19 virus. Apart from them, two more persons from their closest environment were also infected the virus.

Dybala revealed on his Instagram account that he and his girlfriend Oriana Sabatini have Corona, but that they feel good for the moment.

“Hi everyone, I just wanted just to inform you that we have received the results for the Covid-19 test, and both Oriana and I have tested positive. Luckily we are in perfect conditions,” he wrote.

Some rumors were going on for a while that the Argentinian star might be positive on the virus. However, he denied them all until now. Dybala was in self-isolation from March 11, and he will stay there until fully recovered. According to the picture shared on the social network, both are looking good.

The pacey forward, who is one of the best in his position on the world, is the third player from Juventus who is infected with this nasty virus. Before Dybala, Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi were also positive after testing.

A bit further from Turin, in Milan, the former defender of Rossoneri, and one of the football legends, Paolo Maldini, was also tested positive after checking the presence of COVID-19. The 51-year old who is now a technical director in AC Milan is the latest on the long list of athletes in Italy who have Coronavirus.

He is a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, seven-time Serie A champion, and is considered to be among top defenders of all times.

To make it even worse, his son, the 18-year old Daniel, was also positive, but the good thing is that both of them feel well. Also, both of them followed the instructions for self-isolation and were in quarantine for two weeks avoiding contact with everybody.

“AC Milan confirms that Paolo Maldini, the club’s Technical Director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for Coronavirus and began to display symptoms of the virus himself. He was administered with a swab test yesterday, the result of which was positive. His son Daniel… also tested positive,” wrote in the statement released on AC Milan’s official website.

Italy is the most endangered country in Europe at the moment. A couple of days ago, it passed China with the number of victims from COVID-19. The north of the country is under a massive threat, with the health system collapsing under the pressure created by the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 793 people died from this virus, and 6,557 were infected.

Right now, Italy has 53,578 of those who tested positive on the virus, and 4,825 people died in total. The most critical part of the country is the region of Lombardia, where 546 persons died today. The center of this province is in Milan.

The football association canceled all Serie A contests until at least April 4. Yet, the way things develop at the moment, it seems that we won’t be seeing Italian football all the way until May, and that is the best possible scenario. There were some speculations that the campaign might be interrupted, with the top three teams playing some sort of a playoff for the title, but once the circumstances allow that.
