Possible Destinations for Cam Newton

March 25, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Cam Newton and his future is probably the most exciting topic among NFL fans over the last few days. The former MVP finished his tenure with the Carolina Panthers (in not so pleasant way if we may add) and is now looking for potential destinations where he might continue his career. Or better to say to revive the same.

The 30-year old quarterback sunk to the bottom after experiencing numerous injury problems in the last year and more. Newton, once the most entertaining QB in the league, who was bringing the rivals’ defense to agony, touched the lowest point in his career after being released by the Panthers.

Matt Rhule isn’t willing to build his team around the former MVP, but given the role of the centerpiece to Teddy Bridgewater, who arrived from New Orleans and clinched a three-year $63 million deal.

According to some, this development might be a slap in the face which wakes up Newton and motivates him to work even harder in order to reach the previous level of play. According to Adam Schefter, who had information from the player’s physical in Atlanta this Monday, Newton was looking good and fired-up.

“Newton passed the physical and is healthy, with both his shoulder and foot “checking out well,” Schefter revealed the words of his insider. “He is hungrier than ever and eager for the next opportunity.”

Now, about that next opportunity, several teams might be fitting for Super Cam. The most realistic destinations, according to pundits, are the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and the ever-present Chicago Bears.

Chargers are without a quarterback, as Philip Rivers moved on to Colts, and on the other hand, they didn’t succeed in their intention to land Tom Brady. With the time passing by, and the options narrowing down, the franchise from LA needs to do something big and solve the position of the starting passer. The new home and expectations from the fans about the fresh start are putting pressure on the management who needs to put something serious on the table.

Newton would be a good addition for two or three years, and definitely something new and fresh. He would diversify the offense of Lynn’s crew, but his condition is a bit concerning.

The prospects for Newton to get a long-term deal are pretty low, precisely because his health is an enigma at the moment. It is why many see that his move to New England might be possible. The Pats need some big name to fill the blank created with Brady’s departure. They have a lot of dead money hitting the salary cap this season, but during the next year, the team will have enough cash to offer a very tempting deal for anyone they pick to be their QB.

So the scenario is like this. Newton comes to NE, plays under Belichick for one season, which would basically be a test of his abilities. If everything goes well, he signs a new deal and stays in Foxborough for the next three years, let’s say. On the other hand, the Pats get an experienced QB, which would provide them at least a playoff seed. That is the best-case scenario.

Regarding the Bears, they got Nick Foles to be a backup to Mitch Trubisky, but some are saying that the young QB might be on his way out from the Soldier Field. The Bears have no time to lose on his growth, because they have a team in its prime, and if they don’t attack the Super Bowl in the next two years, such chance won’t appear for a long time.

Newton’s next destination is definitely and hot question for everyone, and there will be plenty of rumors more until he finds the new destination.
