Carson Wentz Not Unhappy Because Eagles Picked Jalen Hurts

May 4, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Carson Wentz said today that he wouldn’t have anything against sharing minutes with Jalen Hurts during the upcoming season.

The Eagles’ starting quarterback is trying to ease up the situation and calm down the fans who are upset because they think that he might feel frustrated after the recent NFL draft.

His team picked Hurts in the second round as the 53rd overall pick, and many didn’t see it coming. Having in mind that the former Oklahoma Sooner was one of the best QBs in the draft, that action of the Eagles triggered numerous speculations. Among them were the ones who suggested that Wentz might be unhappy because of this.

“We haven’t gotten too deep into the playbook. Whatever is going to help us win. All I want to do is win. I want to hold up that Lombardi trophy. Whatever it takes, I am on board. I’m a competitor. I want to be out there” pic.twitter.com/pxEekAANr6

However, the 27-year old denied all those stories, saying that he feels perfectly comfortable with having Hurts beside him. Wentz would also add that he respects and will respect any decision made by the organization, as long as it benefits the team.

“I came to Philly ever since being drafted and all I’ve wanted to is win and stand up there and hold that Lombardi Trophy. Whatever that takes and whatever that looks like, I’m on board,” he said.

Howie Roseman, who is Philly’s general manager, notified his starting QB about the team’s intentions to pick Hurts. According to his words, he wasn’t feeling very comfortable in those moments, but on the other hand, Wentz himself expected to see such a scenario. In his own words, he noticed that the team needs a QB after looking at all the moves Eagles made during the free agency.

Still, he isn’t worried at all. He is aware that he is still the No.1 QB, and that the contract signed during the previous year cemented his position in the team. Eagles gave Wentz a four-year $128 million deal, making him the leader of the franchise.

“If I were to start questioning Howie and the management now, I’d really be questioning myself because when I signed the deal I did it was my way of showing I trust and believe in what we’re doing in Philly and they trust and believe in me,” Wentz explained.

What Philly wanted to do with Hurts’ selection, is to secure a decent backup for the possible injury situations. Wentz is known as an injury-prone player, and he had numerous health issues in the past. After all, the Eagles won the Super Bowl with him sidelined, and with Nick Foles on the field.

Now, they don’t have a passer able to jump in from the bench and continue to play at the desired level of play. With Hurts on the roster, all that will be changed. The 21-year old is not only extremely younger and more motivated to prove himself but also has what it takes to be an elite QB.

The youngster is going to be a perfect replacement in the moments when Wentz needs to take a rest or for trash time in some games, when head coach Pedersen wants to keep his starter safe.

Philly had a bad campaign last year. Although they reached the playoffs thanks to excellent performances in the latter part of the season, Eagles lost in the wild-card round against the Seahawks, mostly due to various injuries. They still have one of the best teams in the league, and are desperate to attack the Super Bowl once again.

With Hurts on board, that will be much easier.
