Justin Gaethje on Tony Ferguson: “I Knock Him Out Cold

May 7, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Justin Gaethje is confident that he can defeat Tony Ferguson in the main event of the UFC 249, and he already knows how. The 31-year old stated that he would attack Ferguson with his own weapon, which is a ruthless mindset.

It is no secret that El Cucuy’s mental power provides him a colossal edge over the rivals and that in the critical moments of the fight, his winning mentality prevails. Gaethje is aware of such a thing, but according to his words, he has the ability to stop Ferguson.

“He loves when people call him crazy; it turns him on. But he’s a certain kind of crazy that you have to step in the octagon and be comfortable. I believe I’m just as crazy as him in that regard,” he stated.

Justin Gaethje is an absolute savage:

“I need my nose broken. I haven’t been able to breathe through my nose for like 12 years since wrestling. So hopefully one of them elbows cracks my nose. The UFC’s got to pay for that sh*t.”#UFC249 https://t.co/rxoV0lMaaM

The Highlight declared that he and Ferguson have the same style of fight, which could be useful for him, as he knows how to handle certain matters. Neither of these two guys is afraid of getting into open conflict and accepting a few punches, and that is why many anxiously expect the bout.

Gaethje respects Ferguson a lot, and he knows about El Cucuy’s current winning streak, but isn’t worried about that. The 31-year old is prepared to get into the octagon and to give his best. Of course, he expects to come out as a winner.

“I’m going to fight until I’m finished or until Tony’s finished. That’s what I do, and that’s what I’ve always done. I possess the power to turn his lights off, and I believe I will. Tony Ferguson is a great competitor – 12 wins in a row – but I knock him out cold.”

Right now, the bookies don’t favor Gaethje’s chances of winning this one, and according to the odds, he is a solid underdog. After all, even though he won the previous three fights, all of them via first-round KO, those opponents weren’t at the same level as Ferguson.

Plus, prior to those fights, Gaethje lost to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, two guys who are above-average fighters and who have a solid resume. Because of this, many are suspicious when talking about his prospects to win the interim title.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has 12 wins in a row, and hasn’t lost since May 2012. That is a fact you simply have to acknowledge and respect. Unfortunately, he and Khabib never met, which is why he didn’t have a chance to win the undisputed title of the lightweight division. So far, the best he did was defeating Kevin Lee at the UFC 216, and seizing the interim belt.

Both guys had the last fight against Donald Cerrone, and both of them obliterated the Cowboy. Ferguson demolished his face so badly that the doctors stopped the fight because of numerous hematoma. Meanwhile, Gaethje TKOd Cerrone, inflicting him one of his worst defeats ever.

Whoever wins this battle shall meet Khabib sometime in the future. The Russian Eagle was planned to be a clash with Ferguson, but the COVID-19 pandemic ruined the entire concept of the UFC 249, and in the end, he got stuck back home in Dagestan.

UFC 249 is this Sunday in Jacksonville, Florida.

The preview for this event could be found here.
