Bayern Munich Better Than Borussia in Dortmund, 0-1

May 26, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund in the derby of Bundesliga, and probably secured another title. The final result was 0-1 for the guests, in a match which didn’t meet the expectations.

Der Klassiker was below its usual standards. We saw just one goal, several not so big chances and mild intensity. To be honest more was expected from Borussia, who had an opportunity to come down to just one point with a triumph in this event. Joshua Kimmich prevented that with a goal in the 43rd minute.

Even though they started furiously, missing a chance in the opening minute, after that, they stopped. The Millionaires had the initiative but weren’t able to hurt the guests.

Kimmich scored a beauty in the late part of the first half, sending a lob from the left side of the box, right above Roman Burki, who couldn’t save that attempt. It is arguably one of the nicest goals in this campaign and needs to be highlighted.

“It was quite spontaneous. I didn’t necessarily see it, but we were warned in advance that Bürki was always relatively high,” said the goalscorer following the event.

Until the end, both sides have a few shots, but it was Neuer on one side who controlled everything, while on the other side, it was Burki and a post on one occasion that saved the hosts.

After this match, Bayern has 64 points, and is seven points clear of Borussia, who has theoretical prospects to take the title. Even Lucien Favre, the head coach of the Millionaires admits that catching up with the Bavarians would be extremely difficult.

“It will be difficult, of course. Seven points in six games, it is brutally difficult,” he added.

The experienced coach was under heavy pressure and criticism after the game because he decided to leave Emre Can and Jadon Sancho on the bench. The two would come in later but didn’t have the desired impact on the game.

“It’s easy to say after the game. Can took a few days, he only did one training session with the team…. Jadon, I know, but we have to make sure that he doesn’t hurt himself again. We have to introduce him bit by bit. He can play more again, but not yet 90 minutes. ”

This is the second season in a row in which Borussia loses the title in the final rounds. In the previous campaign, Dortmund had a lead over Bayern but slowed down when it mattered the most.

In other games of the night, Werder and Borussia Monchengladbach played 0-0. We might say that the hosts are more satisfied with this, as they jumped over Bayer 04 in the standings. The team from Leverkusen lost at home to Wolfsburg 1-4, which is a sensation, having in mind their recent performances.

Bayer was excellent, and especially convincing in Monchengladbach when they trashed the hosts, but tonight, the Wolves tore them apart.

Eintracht and Freiburg played 3-3 in Frankfurt in a match, which was a madness in the second half. Freiburg had a two-goal advantage, but couldn’t keep it, allowing the Eagles to come back from the dead and win one point. They are just five points from Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 16th place and play-out. At the start of the season, this crew was projected to fight for Europa League, but now, they need to give everything in their power to avoid relegation.
