Fantastic Seattle Seahawks Rally for a Late Stunner Against Vikes, 27-26

October 12, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Russel Wilson was once again showed his magic, leading the Seattle Seahawks to a massive win over the Minnesota Vikings on SNF, 27-26.

The fans saw yet another display of Wilson’s abilities and his mojo in the last minute of the game. With 1:57 until the end of the game, Seattle got the football back six yards away from their goalline. One minute and forty-two seconds after that, he hit DK Metcalf in the endzone for an explosion on the Seahawks bench.

“He’s just as good as you can get. I don’t know how anybody could ever be better than what he continues to show us in those situations. He’s as good as you can get,” Pete Carroll said about his QB.

It was a perfect ending of one rainy and awful night, that threatened to be even worse for the Seahawks fans who saw their team falling behind to a 13-0 deficit at the halftime.

The Vikes opened the match very well, scoring on their first drive of the night. Dalvin Cook rushed for 8 yards, at 8:48 left inside the first. Seattle couldn’t respond, and we saw multiple punts from their side not only in the first quarter but the second as well.

Minnesota, too, struggled in the offense, but their kicker Dan Bailey scored two FGs, from 52 and 46 yards away.

The Seahawks turned their engines following the halftime, scoring three TDs in less than two minutes, roaring their way back into the game. Wilson passed to Will Dissly, and DK Metcalf for the opening two scores, before Chris Carson had a masterful 29-yard run 6:58 into the second half.

Even though this burst was enough to kill the morale of almost any team in the league, the Vikes didn’t go down. Kirk Cousins hit Adam Thielen for a three-yard TD, crowning a 97-yard drive.

On the very next possession, Minnesota took back the football, picking Wilson, and with being 26-21 and having the ball with 5:45 until the end, the win was in sight. But…

Mike Zimmer’s terrible judgment to go for a TD instead of the field goal on fourth-and-1 six yards from the Seattle’ endzone, cost his team a win. Seahawks’ defense stopped that last snap, handing Wilson a chance to become a hero, which he gladly accepted.

“We came here to win so I’m not going to second guess any of that stuff. We didn’t get it done. Everybody else will. Let them,” said Zimmer on all the critics he received for not picking the field goal instead of that fourth down.

The punishment for that bad decision came in the worst possible moment, and after two fourth downs, Seattle faced during the final drive. Both of them went to Metcalf, with the note that the latter one brought the win to the hosts.

“DK did a great job of running away from his guy, closing off the window,” Wilson stated about DK’s effort. “All those reps that we’ve practiced in the offseason, in the summer, all the time just together one-on-one, it really showed up tonight for sure in that special moment.”

Seahawks’s QB had 217 passing yards for three TDs, one interception, and was sacked four times. Wilson was also the best rusher in Seattle, with 58 yards on the ground. Metcalf caught six passes for 93 yards, Tyler Lockett had 4 for 44.

Kirk Cousins had 249 yards for two TDs and a pick, and his favorite target was Thielen, who had 9 receptions for 80 yards and two scores. Adam Mattison rushed 20 times for 112 yards; Cook had 65 on 17 snaps.

The Vikes (1-4) are now heading back home to meet the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday before visiting Green Bay two weeks later. Seattle (5-0) faces Arizona Cardinals on the road, and then meet the San Francisco 49ers.
