Packers Make Bakhtiari Highest-Paid OL, Defeat the Jaguars, 24-20

November 15, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Green Bay Packers posted two wins today, the first against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the second by signing David Bakhtiari.

Packers beat Jaguars, 24-20 following a vicious battle at Lambeau today, and after that, the news about Bakhtiari’s new deal broke out. Green Bay’s star became the highest-paid offensive linemen in the entire NFL history.

The 29-year old will receive $103.5 million for a four-year extension and has the opportunity to earn two more millions in incentives. Bakhtiari will receive a $30-million bonus, which is also a record for one offensive lineman.

“I’m going to drink a lot of beer. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said, following the game, once asked about his plans for the celebration of his new contract.

His Packers gave him another reason for celebration but after a very tough 60 minutes of play. The NFC North leaders had a ton of issues against the Jaguars, who came to town willing to play strong, and what is more important, without any pressure.

Jacksonville kept the Packs without any points in the opening period, which didn’t happen before this season. They picker Rodgers and forced a fumble on Davante Adams, two things that also didn’t happen during this campaign at home. The guests were physical in defense, creating rough times for the entire GB offensive crew.

“We’ve gotta do a better job of just bringing more juice, just bringing a tougher mindset to game day. It kind of felt we were out of sync all game,” said Matt LaFleur.

If it weren’t for the defense in the last few minutes, the Jags would have a chance to win, as they trailed with 24-20 after Davante Adams’ at 9:03 left.

We saw the Jags and the Packs trading hits throughout the entire time, with the lead changing side on six occasions.

The Packers’ rushing game was under expectation, with Aaron Jones posting 46 yards on 13 carries and Jamaal Williams 30 on 8 reps. On the other side, James Robinson had 23 snaps for 109 yards and was the only one who ran in Jacksonville. He helped Jake Luton, who started at the QB position a lot, with the backup posting 169 yards, for one TD and interception.

That one touchdown pass ended in Keelan Cole’s hands. Cole delivered the highlight of the entire round when he returned the punt for 91 yards. Unfortunately, his fantastic performance didn’t bring a win to the guests.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 325 yards, two touchdown passes, and one pick. As usual, the two-time MVP rotates his weapons throughout the season, and today’s “killer” as Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who had four receptions for 149 yards, and a TD. Davante Adams caught eight passes for 66 yards plus a TD and Jones five for 49.

We didn’t mention that GB’s no.12 had one touchdown himself, with 2:15 until halftime. He mentioned Bakhtiari’s contract, saying that it is a big thing for the entire organization. The two have perfected their game throughout the years, synchronizing moves and thinking like just a few other LT-QB duos.

“Wrapping him up was something that seemed to benefit the organization in the long term. Best left tackle in the game and future Hall of Famer, probably,” said Rodgers.

The Packs (7-2) visit Colts next week and, after that, have a divisional derby at home against the Chicago Bears. Jags (1-8) host two AFC North teams, the Steelers and the Browns.
