UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs. PSG Preview, Odds, Prediction

December 1, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The derby of the UEFA Champions League round is at Old Trafford, where Manchester United hosts Paris Saints Germain. The Reds Devils defeated the French rivals in the first leg, which gives them an edge if they finish leveled in points. Right now, United is at the top of the group with 9 points, three more than PSG and RB Leipzig. However, Solskjaer’s guys need to travel to Germany in the last round, while PSG hosts Istanbul Basaksehir at home. That is why a victory in this one is imperative for both sides.

Preview

Manchester United (+180) comes off a magnificent ending in Southampton, where Edinson Cavani scored an injury-time goal, bringing three points to his side. Just to remind you, the Red Devils were down two goals at halftime, but the Uruguayan veteran changed everything once entering the pitch in the second half.

That was the fourth match in the past five United played in which we saw over 2.5 goals and both sides to score. It seems that Solskjaer really likes to play on the road because Manchester won every single game away from home since the start of the campaign, and all of them saw at least three scores.

His attackers were more than productive in those circumstances netting three or more times in six of the past seven road trips.

PSG (+137) is not flamboyant as it used to be before. It appears that both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar entered a little crisis, especially the French superstar. The Saints won only twice in the previous five encounters and are coming to the Old Trafford following a 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes against Bordeaux.

They lost a 2-1 lead at halftime in this event, which is something pretty rare to see in PSG’s matches. It is also proof of their slowdown. What might be the reason for that are their injuries, but still, Tomas Tuchell has a deep roster, and having a couple of injured first-team members shouldn’t have this bog of an impact.

The Saints lost their previous two matches on the road, against RB Leipzig and Monaco. Now, the latter one saw them wasting a two-goal lead at halftime and allowing the hosts a superb comeback—another proof of their current struggles.

Latest News

Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, and Tuanzebe are all ut for United. At the same time, Eric Bailly, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Alex Telles, Davide de Gea, and Scot McTominay are all game-time decisions.

On the other side, the only one questionable is Kurzawa. Bernat, Julian Draxler, Mauro Icardi, Kehrer, and Sarabia are not eligible to play.

Head to Head Matches

Two years ago, United lost at home in the first leg of the UCL round of 16 to PSG, 0-2. However, a 1-3 shocker in Paris propelled them to the next stage. The first leg of this matchup also saw United’s win, and it was also a late goal that knocked out the hosts. Rashford again delivered the bad news for the Saints, with his hit in the 87th minute.

Prediction

This promises to be a very good game, with lots of chances, even though the pressure on both teams is big and the stakes are high. Over 2.5 goals is the best choice with the odds set at -205. If you want to increase the profits, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals are at -175, which is solid as well.
