AFC North – Quick Preview and Overview

August 27, 2022 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The AFC North gave has a conference champion, and besides, three more teams are all playoff contenders. That’s why many believe this is the best division in the AFC. The Bengals amazed everyone by reaching the Super Bowl last year, while on the other hand, the Browns disappointed. As for the Ravens and the Steelers, they had solid campaigns.

Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow is a superstar, and that is already clear now. What makes the Bengals’ fans happy is the fact that he has a perfect fit in Ja’Marr Chase, one of the most promising wide receivers in the league. But not only that, there is RB Joe Mixon, and the Bengals have all three positions covered pretty well, balancing their attack.

In the offseason, the biggest plus for them was strengthening the offensive line, Alex Cappa, Ted Karras, and La’el Collins. This was the biggest problem for Cinci and Burrow, who should be protected much better now.

Baltimore Ravens

If a team didn’t have any luck with the injuries last year, that would be the Ravens, who were massacred. In the end, that cost them the playoffs. They are all healthy now and ready to roll. The offense is weaker than in 2021 because there aren’t Sammy Watkins and Marquise Brown. Though, they will still have one of the toughest RB cores in the league and the former MVP Lamar Jackson. And TE Mark Andrews and WR Rashod Bateman.

The defense is another story and arguably among the top five in the league. Calais Campbell is resigned, while CB Kyle Fuller and safety Marcus Williams arrived in Baltimore, making this part of the team rock-solid.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have to find their new quarterbacks – the potential choices are Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky. Once Tomlin solves that, we’ll see what happens with the team. Smith-Schuster left, James Washington too, as well as Eric Ebron and Ray-Ray Mcloud. Rookies George Pickens and Calvin Austin III will try to replace all of them. Though with Claypoole, we don’t think the Steelers would have problems in that area.

The defense is exceptionally talented, and it is a pity this team doesn’t have some veteran QB because they would be Super Bowl contenders right away. The way these guys defend is tremendous, and they have been the reason for all the wins in the past two years.

In general, the Steelers have a very young and talented team that needs some time before becoming a true powerhouse.

Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson’s saga isn’t ending, and everything in Cleveland revolves around it. Will he play, how many games is he suspended, etc. Baker is out, Watson is in. Notable landings are Amari Cooper and Jacoby Brissett, and we can say that the Browns again have a very good balance on the offensive side. Of course, the RBs are Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

The defense depends solely on Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney, which is a big problem. It doesn’t have any balance, with the interior being half as strong as the edge, and the rivals will keep using that.
