Australian A1 Finals: Sydney FC vs. Melbourne City Betting Preview, Odds, Prediction

August 28, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The playoffs of the Australian A1-League finish this season with the finals featuring Sydney FC and Melbourne City. These were two of the best teams following the regular part of the campaign, which makes this event even more interesting. Both had routine jobs in the semis, defeating their rivals with 2-0. While Sydney FC defends the crown, and is after their third title in the previous four years, Melbourne City plays it’s first A1 finals.

Preview

Sydney FC (+140) is a slight favorite, mostly because they come in as the reigning champions and due to their no.1 place at the end of the regular part of the year. Still, even though they had a monstrous run before COVID-19 pandemic and looked unstoppable, following the comeback, Steve Corica’s boys were looking a bit pale.

A win in the semis over Perth Glory was only the second one in the last nine games, and the first following the restart of the football activities in Australia. Also, that contest was the only during that negative stretch where Sydney FC didn’t allow a goal and in which they scored two.

Now, some say that the champs kept their best shot for the finals, while others believe that they did lose a lot of momentum when compared to pre-Corona games.

Melbourne City (+185) is desperate to win a title. Their only trophy was the FFA Cup in 2016, and last year MC lost in the finals of the same. However, the affiliate club of much bigger and more famous Manchester City, wants the crown of the Australian football, not the cup.

Their form is at a much higher level than Sydney’s. Since the COVID-19 comeback, they posted three wins and a draw, and one of those victories was against their rivals in the finals.

That was the first match for the Citizens following the restart, but we’ll talk more about that in our head-to-head section. This crew scored at least two goals in each of those contests, keeping clean sheets on two occasions – against Sydney and Western United in the semifinals.

Latest News

So far there haven’t been any pieces of information about the injured or absent players, and we will update the section as soon as there is available news on that subject.

Head to Head Matches

The most recent one was on August 1, when Melbourne won 2-0. After a goalless first half, Noone and Mclaren scored a goal apiece between 57th and 68th minute to give their side a win. The last four matches were divided equally, with both sides having two wins each.

On the other side, four out of five events saw both sides not to score.

Prediction

The finals are going to be tight and rough, do know that. A lot is at stake, and we have two very harsh teams going against one another, which will decrease the efficiency.

Under 2.5 goals is our first choice, with the odds at -110 for that suggestion. The second suggestion is to go with a draw as the final result, +230.
