Carson Wentz About the Extension: “It Means the World to Me”

June 7, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles have signed an extension which will keep the quarterback in the City of Brotherly Love over the next four years. Per various sources, the deal is worth $128 million from which $107.9 are guaranteed.

If everything goes as planned, this extension could reach $144 million. When including his rookie contract, Wentz could earn up to $170 million here in Philly.

“Can’t even explain to you how excited I am right now to be a part of this great city, for this many more years,” said Wentz in a video posted on his Twitter account. “It means a world to me.”

The Eagles quarterback who is projected to be a cornerstone of this franchise in the next decade is now officially the leading star of the 2017 Super Bowl champions. Philly’s intentions were known earlier this year when they and Nick Foles part ways, with the Super Bowl LII MVP heading for Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carson Wentz has been a project of the Eagles and the franchise’s specific desire right from the moment he entered the draft. Philly decided to trade and move up the ladder in 2016 to have the No.2 pick in order to pick Wentz who was coming out from North Dakota State.

He instantly became the leader of the franchise, setting several rookie records. The most notable were most pass attempts by a rookie and most pass completions. Wentz was the crucial reason for Philly’s fantastic campaign in 2017. Until his injury against the LA Rams in Week 14, he led the Eagles to an 11-2 record, after which Foles jumped in and wrote history.

Issues with injuries repeated during the previous season, but according to the player and the team, Wentz is now looking better than ever. Because of that, the Eagles wanted to bond him long-term.

There is also one more reason why the franchise decided to react now and offer this massive deal to the 26-year old. The price for an elite QB will only be higher in the future, meaning that if they waited more, the entire sum would only go up. So practically, they earned some money for taking care of the job now.

Both parties are thrilled after the signature. Philly because they finally got what they wanted, and on the other side, Wentz who is happy because he feels that his qualities are being appreciated, and also because securing his future.

In his video, Wentz told that there is a lot of potential in the franchise and that they can have a big role in the league. He felt that the moment he got drafted and was later convinced that Philadelphia has the best fans in the world, in all sports not just football.

According to the player, a lot of triumphant moments are ahead of the Eagles. But first, a huge amount of work is necessary.

“It’s going to be a fun ride,” said the player. “By no means is the work done, we’re just getting started. This year’s going to be special, and I look forward to seeing you guys on Sundays at the Linc.”

The Eagles’ first game in the preseason will be against the Tennessee Titans on August 9th. After that, they face their old leader, Nick Foles, as they play in Jacksonville vs. the Jaguars.

The season premiere will be against the Washington Redskins at the Lincoln Financial Field on September 8th.
