Chelsea Defeats Both Tottenham Hotspur and Racism, 2-0

December 22, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspur experienced a massive frustration today against Chelsea. The Portuguese manager suffered a 0-2 defeat in a game that was marked with the Spurs’ fans unsportsmanlike behavior.

With their team being two goals behind, the hosts’ supporters made racial slurs towards Blues’ defender Antonio Rudiger, and the game was stopped for a moment. This wasn’t the first time this season to see something like that on the stadiums in England, and it appears that racism in football is still present despite all efforts of preventing such incidents.

Luckily for the regular and the real fans of this game, everything was settled quickly, and the match continued. Yet, a bad feeling will stay behind this.

“We are very concerned and very aware of this behavior, and all together, we need to stop it. It’s an issue in life, not only football,” said Cesar Azpilicueta following the match.

As for the match, the Blues were much better than the Spurs, who couldn’t send a shot on target up until the late part of the contest. In all aspects of the game, Lampard outsmarted his former mentor and the person who pretty much made him one of the best English midfielders ever.

We are positive that the Portuguese wasn’t feeling happy because of it after the match, as his face looked pretty dark while walking away from the field.

It took twelve minutes for Chelsea to find a way towards the net, with Willian scoring the opener. After creating a space needed to fire the football, he would hit the back of the net with a laser-precise strike.

The Brazilian would double the lead in the fourth minute of the first half’s stoppage time. Tottenham’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga brought down Marcos Alonso, and the referee had no other choice but to point towards the penalty spot.

Willian took the responsibility, and with ice in his veins routinely beat Gazzaniga.

“I’m happy with the two goals but the most important thing is to win the game. We did a brilliant job today. We know how difficult it is to play against Tottenham, but the team was perfect mentally,” said the scorer of both goals for the Blues.

The second half also saw excitement. Chelsea scored another goal, which was disallowed due to offside. In the 62nd minute, Tottenham was left without one player on the pitch, because of Son’s red card following the Korean’s violent behavior.

After being brought down by Rudiger, the pacey winger hit the German center-back with his legs while lying on the ground.

This was the 10th win of the season for Chelsea, who is now fourth in the standings, with six points more than the Spurs. It was a significant triumph for them today, because of the fact that it was fought against the direct rival for the Champions League spot. The next opponent for Lampard’s team is Southampton.

“Now we have to stay at that level – we can’t go up and down, up and down,” Willian added.

As for the Spurs, this was the first loss at home since Mourinho took over the wheel. Tottenham is now seventh in the standings with 26 points in 18 matches. They will be facing Brighton at home next Thursday.
