Cleveland Browns Bounce Back With a Massive Win Over the Baltimore Ravens, 40-25

September 29, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Cleveland Browns have proved wrong all those who diminished their quality in the recent few weeks. Freddie Kitchens’ guys defeated Baltimore Ravens on the road, 40-25, coming back with style after a loss against Rams in Ohio last Sunday.

It was all about fantastic Nick Chubb who tore apart Baltimore’s defense. In the moments when Baltimore had momentum on their side, and was on fire after scoring a TD and executing a two-point conversion, Chubb rushed for an 88-yard touchdown, the third-longest in Browns’ history. That was the period in which Jarvis Landry had to go out because of a concussion protocol, which heavily narrowed Mayfield’s options in the attack.

The 23-year old had 165 rushing yards on 20 carries for three touchdowns, and was an enigma for the Ravens’ defense.

Cleveland controlled the game during the entire time, and the only part in which the home team threatened that they might make some comeback was in the early fourth quarter, once they cut Brown’s lead to six points. But as we already said, Chubb stopped all that.

“It was a good team win. We executed offensively, they did a hell of a job of everybody doing their job,” said Kitchens, who also praised his defense. “They (defense) took it as a challenge to stop the run, and they did a good job of that. They created four turnovers, five sacks.”

Lamar Jackson didn’t have his night at all. The sophomore was making too many mistakes, and what was the best offense in the league so far, struggled to be consistent. Eventually, Jackson had two interceptions, in a short period, and finished the game with 247 yards, 24 of 34, and three touchdowns. But not only that, he was sacked four times, and lost 25 yards. When looking yards from the scrimmage, Baltimore had 395, while Cleveland posted 530.

Jermaine Whitehead, the guy who replaced the injured Morgan Burnett solved the game. He intercepted Jackson’s long pass with 5:52 until the end, in the moments when the hosts pushed aggressively, accepting a lot of risks. Whitehead was the one who shook Jackson’s already disturbed confidence.

Although the Browns had to punt the ball 22 seconds later, they would win it back shortly after when Devaroe Lawrence picked up another Jackson’s pass. From the next drive, Cleveland recorded another TD, with Dontrell Hilliard rushing for one yard, and increasing the lead to 40-18. Willie Snead IV just saved the honor of the home team with a 50-yard TD half a minute before the end of the event. Besides him, Miles Boykin and Mark Andrews added one score each.

“Tough game for the Ravens, congratulation to the Browns. It’s a good win, and they deserved it. They played a better football today by a long margin, so they walked out of here with a well-deserved win,” Harbaugh said at the press.

Bakey Mayfield was 20 of 30 for 342 yards, one touchdown, and interception each, and was looking much better than against the Rams and the Jets. Landry had 8 receptions for 167 yards, while Odell Beckham Jr. had one of those nights when he couldn’t do anything right on the field. Nevertheless, 2 receptions for 20 yards were enough for him, as his team now sits at the top of the AFC North along with Baltimore with 2-2.

Up next the Browns are traveling to San Francisco to meet the 49ers, and after that host Seattle.

Meanwhile, Baltimore is going to Pittsburgh and awaits the Bengals.
