College Hoops Betting Advice: Who are the Jacksonville Dolphins?

February 7, 2019 By Kreighton R Leave a Comment

Most D1 college basketball teams have logged around 10 games since the calendar turned to 2019. Some have torn up the court, completely shattering expectations. Others have melted under the pressure and failed to live up to the hype.

As astute college hoops bettors, we know there is only one thing that matters – winning your bets. It does not matter if a bet is unpopular. It does not matter if you don’t like the players or the coach. It does not matter if a fluke play or two happens and you win but “didn’t deserve to win”. All that matters is you win, right?

So obviously … if all that matters is winning our bet, we should be focusing on things that pertain to our bet, right? If we are planning to bet a prop on Ja Morant’s first-half assists, does it really matter what the game’s spread is? No.

Likewise, if we are planning to bet point spreads, does it really matter who is favored to win the game SU? Once again, no. I feel that too many people shy away from bets because of other factors that don’t pertain to that bet.

Think that sounds stupid? Think you aren’t one of them? Imagine this scenario: A particular team has been killing it ATS lately. They’ve gone 7-2 ATS over the past 5 weeks, good for a 48.5% ROI. The catch is that this team is not actually winning many games SU. They are 3-6 in that department. Would you have faith in them?

This team is the Jacksonville Dolphins.

Jacksonville Dolphins: Introducing a Moneymaker

They sound like a mashup of NFL teams, but the Dolphins of Jacksonville University are located in Jacksonville, FL and are currently in 6th place in the Atlantic Sun conference. The Dolphins are not to be confused with the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. JSU is located in Alabama and their basketball team competes in the Ohio Valley conference.

According the NCAA NET rankings, Jacksonville is not very good. They rank 286th of out the 353 D1 college hoops teams. I am not saying to bet them SU. We need to take advantage of what has been working – the point spread.

You know how I always say that small conferences are where smart bettors can clean up? The Jacksonville Dolphins are living proof of this. Vegas obviously does not know how to properly handicap this team. We can turn that ignorance into cold hard cash.

It’s kind of funny looking back over the Dolphins’ previous 6 games. Check out these numbers.

Opponent JU Line JU Result JU ATS Margin
vs New Orleans -6.5 L 91-88 -9.5
@ NJIT +8 L 77-74 +5
@ North Florida +8 W 86-81 +13
vs Liberty +10.5 L 69-59 +0.5
vs Stetson -12 W 72-57 +3
@ Florida Gulf Coast +4.5 L 73-60 -8.5

Vegas had JU favored against New Orleans and they lost. The spread was way off. The oddsmakers then gave JU a slim chance against North Florida the following week and the Dolphins blew the line out of the water.

Here is my point: You are missing out on making very profitable bets if you fail to dig below the surface. It’s not all about SU wins. This means that your focus as a bettor and the focus of the media are going to be different.

Jacksonville is one example of an under the radar team that is cashing in big time. There are several others like them. Don’t be afraid to branch out and do some research. There are plenty of lucrative betting opportunities that go undetected because many people look at SU records and then stop.

You will see similar articles from me in the future in an effort to jumpstart your profits. See you on top!
