Connor McGregor Knocks Out Cowboy Cerrone at UFC 246

January 19, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Connor McGregor furiously came back into the octagon with a knockout-win against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The fight lasted for 40 seconds before the judge in the ring had to stop it.

“Ireland baby,” McGregor screamed while giving the interview to Joe Rogan. “And anyone of these little melty fools can get it,” he added, calling out all other fighters who were watching the fight at the T-Mobile Arena, among them Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman.

The bout didn’t last for too long. Right from the start, Connor (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) imposed his own tempo, hurting the Cowboy (36-14 MMA, 23-11 UFC) with his shoulder, hitting him four straight times while in the clinch. One hit was in the nose, and that severely damaged the opponent’s flow.

“I never seen anything like that,” Cerrone stated. “He caught me way off guard, busted my nose, started bleeding, and stepped back and head kicked me.”

His left high kick struck Cerrone’s jaw and shook the American who immediately went to the ground. After that, there was no coming back for the veteran who is merely a shadow of once one of the toughest fighters in the organization.

Numerous punches to his head while lying on the ground forced the judge to stop the fight, with the crowd exploding. They were so eager to see McGregor in the ring once again and it seems that the Irishman repaid them in the best possible way.

Immediately after the fight stopped, the hugged Cerrone, paying his respects to one of the biggest legends of this sport, who, although suffers humiliation after humiliation, isn’t willing to stop fighting.

“Hey man, I love this sport, I’m gonna keep fighting,” Cerrone said. “I don’t care, just doing what I love.”

On the other side, McGregor was a bit euphoric during his interview, and he started talking about his whiskeys, partying in Miami, and also thanked all the people who supported him.

Once Rogan asked him about the shoulder hits, he stated that it is something he worked on while preparing for this match.

“It’s a level change. He wasn’t excepting that.”

The next stop for Connor is still an enigma, but it will definitely be much harder than Cerrone. Already before this fight, he had an offer from Justin Gaethje to meet him but avoided that. Jorge Masvidal stated minutes before the start of this event that he wouldn’t have anything against fighting the Irishman if the financial offer was good.

UFC 246 is just an announcement that McGregor came back, but nothing more than that, because it can’t tell us where he stands right now. Even according to his words in the ring, he is not anywhere his peak.

As for the Cowboy, it is apparent that he became a punching bag over the recent few fights. And that is not a very nice thing to see. After all, he is one of the biggest legends of this sport, and he should take care of his legacy and his health.

This is the third straight loss in which he absorbed a lot of beating, and if we can say the least painful. But according to the latest intel he has been transported to the hospital following the fight.

The FC 246 is closed, and we wait to see what happens next with both Connor and Cerrone.
