Cristiano Ronaldo After Atletico: “This is Why They Signed Me”

March 12, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The unbelievable, one and only Cristiano Ronaldo, showed tonight in Turin why is he one of the best players of all times.

The Portuguese scored a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid and led his team to a huge win, with which they erased the deficit from the first leg.

It was 3-0 for the Old Lady, and after 2-0 in Madrid for Atletico, the Italians advanced to the quarterfinals.

After the game, Ronaldo said that he and his teammates wanted to create a memorable game for them and their fans, adding that the performance from tonight is the guideline for all the upcoming matches in the Champions League.

“We wanted a special night, and it was just that – not only for my goals, but for the entire team. This is the right mentality to play in the Champions League, so we must be proud,” Ronaldo stated.

One of the reporters said that this was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the Italian powerhouse. After that remark, Ronaldo answered in his style.

“Maybe that’s why they signed me.”

The most lethal scorer in the history of the Champions League, opened the show after 28 minutes of the game.

Bernardeschi sent a cross from the left, towards the far right post of Atletico’s goal. Ronaldo came full speed and with a header placed the ball into the net.

Just three minutes into the second half, his header was once again in the focus of attention. Alone, from some few yards, Ronaldo smashed the ball, and guests’ goalkeeper Oblak managed to push it away from him. But he did it after it passed the goal line, which was confirmed by the goal-line technology.

It was 2-0 and the things were getting awfully hot for Atletico at Allianz Stadium.

And some four minutes before the end, the inevitable took place. Angel Correa brought down Federico Bernardeschi in the box, and the referee Bjorn Kuipers didn’t hesitate for a second to point towards the penalty spot.

It was a time for Ronaldo to take responsibility, which he did. The Portuguese calmly executed, and ignited the fans, setting the stands on fire.

Atletico couldn’t strike back as there wasn’t enough time, but even if it had, with the way they played last night, such a thing would have been virtually impossible.

"He's a living football God!"

"He's the best header of the ball I've ever seen."

Atletico’s coach, Diego Simeone admitted that after the game, saying that his team got outplayed in all aspects of the game, and congratulated Juve for a magnificent result.

“Juventus were better and deserved to win the game,” Simeone stated. “They pushed us back. You must congratulate a rival when they play a game like that and you are beaten like today.”

Massimiliano Allegri had nothing much to speak about his team’s game. The Italian coach stated that all the guys on the pitch played perfectly tonight.

“The lads played exactly as they should tonight. The played with pace and technique.”

Juventus continues the Champions League adventure, and they still hope that after five lost finals in a row, the UCL trophy might land in Turin for the first time after 1996. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid sparked the imagination of the fans, who are desperately waiting for the confirmation of Juve’s dominance in Italy with one European title.

On the other side, the Champions League title still stands out of reach for Atletico. With PSG and Real Madrid eliminated, another big favorite finished its participation in the round of 16.

In the other game of the night, Manchester City smashed Schalke 04 at Etihad stadium with 7-0. It was one of the worst defeats in Miners’ history, and no doubt they will remember it for a long time.

Two more events are on the menu for tomorrow. Barcelona plays with Lyon at home, while Liverpool meets Bayern Munich in Germany.
