Dak Prescott Isn’t Signing a Team-Friendly Contract

February 9, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys are constantly providing stories for the media. Whether is that because of good or bad results, because of their history and enormous fan base, the Cowboys will always be in the middle of attention.

After all, they are America’s team.

Yesterday, Cowboys’ name again came up, when their starting quarterback Dak Prescott had an interview in which he talked about the previous season and a lot of other things.

There were many topics involved, and among them, one was pretty interesting for all NFL fans, especially the ones from Dallas. Cotracts.

Prescott will no doubt sign one of the heaviest contracts in the league after this season. At the moment, Dallas’ QB is under a four-year deal worth $2,723,393. A bit low for the player of his caliber won’t you say?

Ahead of Super Bowl, Prescott mentioned this subject for the first time, saying that he believes that the Cowboys will make a fair deal with him and other players who are near the end of their contract.

“I think the team knows how to pay what’s deserved,” Prescott told back them, “and pay those other people at the same time what’s deserved without being frugal.”

And there is nothing wrong with this statement because it is made after Jerry Jones, Cowboys owner, publicly revealed that he prepares an “extraordinary contract” for his star player.

But what caused for mass hysteria on social networks was his recent comparing to Tom Brady in terms of contracts.

Prescott warned the public that he isn’t willing to make a deal which will be similar like the one Brady has with the Pats. The six-time Super Bowl champion currently earns $15 million per year, which is way less than the majority of starting quarterbacks.

In order to leave more money for other teammates, and allow his team to have more quality players on the roster, Brady decided to lower his demands.

On the other side, that is not an option for Prescott. And the way he explained that is very odd.

“Nobody’s wife makes as much money as his wife does either,” he said. “When Tom Brady isn’t the breadwinner in the home, then that’s a great problem to have. So in that case, he can do that. He can do his contract however you want to do it.”

Many people got the point, but they didn’t like the way Prescott explained the whole deal. Especially when he compared him to Brady and involved Gisele Bundchen.

So far, he led Dallas to the postseason twice in his three years at Arlington. It is a good result, and it seems that with him on board, Ezekiel Elliot and other players who dramatically improved over the last few seasons, this franchise has a nice future.

But them having that many good players, might be a massive problem in the near future.

Elliot’s contract expires after 2020, the same year Byron Jones and Amari Cooper are getting out their respective deals. For all of them to stay in Texas would require a lot of money.

Jerry Jones is someone who is more than willing to spare his financial recourses if his Cowboys are to get the title back to Dallas. But if any of these three guys become demanding as Prescott, things wouldn’t be smooth. Even with him.

Dallas was good this year, and they even won the first playoff game after Tony Romo’s era ended. However, that is far away from being a Super Bowl contender, or from comparing yourself to Brady.

It is why most of the fans who heard Prescott’s interview mostly made negative reactions about it, labeling him as greedy and overrated.

The future will show who is right. For now, we can just guess.
