Dana White Hints a Possible Khabib vs. St-Pierre Fight

October 3, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

UFC’s boss Dana White mentioned earlier today that he would like to see the clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre.

The two of the most dominant fighters in lightweight and middleweight divisions, respectively, would definitely put on one of the most entertaining MMA events ever. Knowing their background and the publicity they could attract, there is no doubt that White could make a money machine out of it.

Though, he did say that Khabib has obligations which he needs to take care of first. The Russian champion has a match against Tony Ferguson, and if everything goes well there, he would see with the fighters what is necessary to arrange the spectacle.

“Tony (Ferguson) fight has to happen first,” White said. “Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib. Obviously, if Khabib wins that fight, the ‘GSP’ fight will be a fun fight to make.”

Many of the reporters wanted to know what is the current state of the former welterweight champ, and according to White’s words, it seems that St-Pierre didn’t slow down with his training at all. He stated that the Canadian looks better that he used to do while fighting.

“I don’t know if you guys have seen pictures of ‘GSP,’ but he’s looking really, really, really (expletive) skinny right now, man,” White said, adding that St-Pierre is lighter than Khabib at the moment. “I think right now, he’s like 10 pounds lighter than Khabib is. Something like that somebody told me – so that’s pretty crazy.”

Just to remind you, St-Pierre has been retired for almost two years, since the UFC 217. Back then, he defeated Michael Bisping, winning the middleweight title. But the rumors about his potential comeback are still present, and the fighter too never really shut them down, closing that story.

Meanwhile, Khabib wants to fight St-Pierre, for whom he has the utmost respect, as he always spoke with kind words about the Canadian. However, besides him, there is one more name in the combination for the ‘Fight of the Century,” his old rival – Conor McGregor. Although Khabib told that the Irishman needs to prove himself first, and earn another chance to meet with him, his father stated something which brought a smile on the face of all the MMA fans around the world.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov stated that his son is open for a new fight against the Notorious and that he offers Moscow to be the venue.

“If McGregor wants it, then Moscow is waiting for him. He said once that he has more fans here than Khabib. We want to host him in Moscow, he is welcome – we are waiting,” said Khabib’s father.

But he too acknowledges the fact that Khabib needs to do his job with Ferguson first, and then starts planing his next fights. According to the Russian trainer, he thinks that Ferguson is one excellent fighter, whose current record presents a challenge for his son.

“Because he had 28 fights, and runs a 12-fight winning streak in the UFC, just like Khabib. Such winning streaks and such big fights have never happened in the UFC,” said Abdulmanap.

He also hinted that the fight with the American won’t be before March next year and that he believes that the Madison Square Garden should be the venue of such a big event.

No doubt, Dana White is exploiting the current situation in the UFC very well. And if Khabib defeats Ferguson, the next fight in which the Russian Eagle participates will be a blockbusting one.
